1602 by Neil Gaiman (script) and Andy Kubert (pencils). (Mostly) first reading.

In some ways, 'Neil Gaiman' is all I need to say )

I just read this recently myself; I'm not as familiar with Gaiman's work -- in fact, I'm more familiar with him in collaboration (Good Omens, with Terry Pratchett), as I haven't actually read any of the Sandman stuff.

That said, a minor spoiler exists below for those who HAVEN'T read the series yet.

I found this an incredibly intriguing series. I don't actually have anything to add to what you said, really. One thing I did like, though -- Angel's little revelation to Cyclops re: "John Grey," and infatuation thereof. It seems that all of my favorite X-Men are gay in canon SOMEWHERE. ;)

You should definitely read Sandman. *_* It's so incredibly good.

Who're your favorite X-Men? ^^

Northstar (gay everywhere), Colossus (gay in the Ultimate universe), and Angel (gay in the 1602 'verse). :)
