I didn't think it was too bad, but I tend to be overly romantic when it comes to this one. I've seen the stage version twice and I have the original London cast soundtrack (with the unequal Michael Crawford! I swear, seeing him in 'Hello Dolly' and then as the Phantom is just surreal). I did think Minnie Driver's Italian accent was a bit too much. I could barely understand her.
Yeah, I had accent issues as well. She was fun, though, and the woman who sang Carlotta did a good job as well.
The thing I never quite got over was seeing Crawford as Hero in the movie of "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum". From that to Phantom is pretty brain-breaking too.
