I lost some of my respect for both The Oscars™ and The Razzies in 1998, when I felt that the movie that was awarded World Picture was better than the one that was awarded Best Picture.

OK, both could have been a bit shorter, but I still think that The Postman was a much better movie that most people give it credit for.

I know. Sometimes you have to wonder what the purpose is behind those award shows and how much of a win is due to merit vs internal politics. Part of the problem is that there's no objective way to measure the quality of a movie. If there was everyone would try to use that formula.

Both of you guys just got extra points from me. I, too, think The Postman was a pretty good flick.

Personally I don't like movies where the setting is some time when civilization falls, but Postman is about someone performing a governmental service and I can get behind that. I also wonder if a movie about how good an important a non-military government service can be was part of why people didn't like it.

I wonder if anyone accepted their awards? Sandra Bullock did one year (she paired it with some sort of charity drive, using the publicity for a good cause), showing a great sense of humor.
