From Chicago, across the Ohio Valley, all the way to D.C. Weatherdude from dKos says that many local weatherpeople are dropping the ball on explaining "derecho" to viewers, so the link above details not only the weather risk tomorrow, but what a derecho is and why you should worry about it.

I'm right on the edge of red and yellow. I remember last June/July when there was a massive wind storm that knocked out power for days in Chicagoland. I hope I won't have to go through that again. According to weather.com the biggest problem will be rain and not the wind so I hope the power will stay on to keep the pumps working ( ... )

I've had WHIO-WX (Dayton's local weather channel) on for a while -- I often use it for background noise -- and I haven't heard the word "derecho" mentioned yet.

I know it's a Spanish word; it means "right" (as in direction). (Its opposite -- left -- is "izquierda".)

-sighs- Well, at least the engine eating itself means we won't be where we would've been, which would've been driving straight into that mess.
