There Seems To Be Some Sort Of Athletic Event Today

A Superlative Chafing Dish or something.
  • Who's watching?
  • Who's watching for the commercials?
  • Who's watching only the commercials?
  • Who doesn't care?
  • Does anyone care about the Halftime Show?
  • And, most importantly, who's got the best nacho/burger/chili/sloppy joe recipe?
  • (I'm presuming that, if you're getting pizza, you're likely not making it today. ' ( Read more... )

I'll be watching, cause why not.

Recording the game so Diana can watch the commercials later.

Sooo don't care about the half-time show. If it were an act I cared about I'd pay attention.

Made gumbo!

It's the perfect event to make puzza!

Oh, that's why everyone's going nuts. I thought that was Thanksgiving and that there was a big baseball game today or something.

I kind of wish they'd have major league sport cons and allow me to avoid their fandom.

I know what you mean. I'd completely forgotten until huskiebear reminded me the other day.

Here's the thing. I am a big football fan. But something about this particular matchup does little for me. And a friend with no interest in sports at all decided to have a gaming party as counterprogramming. When asked to choose between friends and watching something by myself, friends win. (Three years running, I had filk-related plans that trumped the game, including the year the team I root for won.) It's a fun thing to spend my time on. But it's just a game.

As for the ads...the really special ads, the 1984 ad or the EDS one with the cat herders, are increasingly rare. The last three years, the ads were dull at best, sexist and insulting at worst. Given that you can see all the ads online the next morning, I would rather wait for the buzz and pick which ones sound interesting.

The halftime show...even when it's acts I like, the music is irrelevant. It's a lot of glitz and noise that I would rather skip. Oh for the days of marching bands.

With Clint Eastwood was pretty good. But yeah, most of the ads these last few years have been pretty uninspired.

Speaking of the ads I understand that Coke and Pepsi demanded they not run an ad for Sodastream. Money talks as usual.

But that ad ran either right before or right after the national anthem bit. I remember seeing it early.

It's the only time this weekend when the stores won't be full of panicked sports fans (or their grumpy significant others) running for the beer and chips.

Don't care about football. I think the boss scheduled me to work the late shift because he knows I'm probably the least likely to complain about it. Looking forward to a quiet night.
