Tell Woody Harrelson To Start Buying Twinkies NOW

Hostess Brands is going out of business.

Utterly stupid. The company would literally rather kill itself off than give their workers a break. They wanted "major wage and benefit concessions". Don't they always?

What's your favorite Hostess brand? Mine's the Snowball. Fortunately, I only have 'em a couple of times a year.

I agree that it's stupid to blame the unions for the bad decisions of management. Just how much were the CEOs and those in charge willing to give up in the form of "major wage and benefit concessions"? Probably nothing. Hostess declared bankrupcy before and now they can sell their name brand and recipes to pay off the debt the higher ups caused.

It's not a done deal yet, it has to be approved by the courts.

As for a favorite brand, I don't really have one. There's enough knock-offs you can get cheaper so that I won't miss it. I do like the glazed honey buns however.

The sticking point, as I understand it, was that Hostess CEOs of the past looted the pension fund, leaving it with $2 billion in unfunded liabilities. The Teamsters were willing to write it off, but nobody else was.

And, of course, the CEOs come out richer, everyone else poorer.

If there's any justice, that should give a the unions a good standing in the list of debtors when the bankruptcy court starts handing out assettts.

Let's find out how much their distribution network is going for then start a Kickstarter project to buy it. We can source the confectionaries to local bakeries to ensure some degree of freshness while using the network to keep the stores stocked. Then we can make our own snack cakes, like "Filkers" filled cupcakes, "Fandomes" half-spheres of fudge topped with nuts, "Trekkies" red velvet twinkies with frosting that looks like a face yelling "Oh Nooooooo ( ... )

I would suspect that there are other reasons Hostess is shutting down and they are just trying to place the blame on the workers and the strike.

I was surprised they stayed in business until now. They were supposed to fold by now, and the word I've heard is that it would have been some time in mid 2013 that they closed up, even if the workers took the pay and benefits cuts.

Their products are pure poison to me now (blood sugar), but in the day, I was a major consumer of Ring Dings, Yodels, Hostess Cupcakes, and Suzie-Qs, all chilled or frozen if possible, and both sizes of Fruit Pies (apple, by preference).

Oy. What a mess. Bad corporate thinking, Hostess!

I miss the Canadian Hostess commercials with the three hungry ghosts

Canada will still have their Hostess treats; a different corporation owns the brand there, and they're doing well.

One does wonder, hypothetically, if there's money to be made by running twinkies across the border.

Next on Great Lakes Vice, an illicit Twinkie shipment goes bad.

I used to love putting Ho Ho's in the freezer as a kid.

If Hostess does go under I'm sure a few others will try to take their place, which means more options for us.

Or King Dons, depending upon whether the Moral Guardians in your particular state regarded the name "Ding Dongs" as a double entendre.

Other companies already have. You can find many Hotess-like products in other stores like Walgreens.
