I have a KX3. The KX2 would suit me better, but the post-Brexit drop in the pound has made it look even more expensive here...

I like the KX3 a lot. I've never played with the KX2 but it looks even more suited to what I want to do, same as you. (Mind, I *love* my MTR)

This is why I've never gotten into ham radio, despite the fact that it's exactly the sort of thing that would appeal to me.

Of course not! Steve Weber, KD1JV hasn't got his new one ready for sale yet. It's, apparently, going to be a bit different from the recent ATS/MTR offerings in that it's a single bander, Arduino based and the construction id going to be mostly through hole.

Hmmm..single bander? Not sure I see the advantage of that. I like switching bands as propagation changes!

Heh, I'm sure! I already have 3 radios that I use regularly. I really don't NEED a 4th.

FT-817 (doesn't get a lot of use as its power button is gone).
FT-450AT (gets use when I'm in 5Z)
706-MkIIG (main rig at home)
KX3 (main portable rig, and also for 5MHz at home)
Sundry kit rigs (mainly for the soldering)

There's always room for one more...
