What I did last night

A few months back my friend Susan sends me an email saying, "Hey, Steeleye Span are playing in New York in July! Wanna go?" Well, sure, of course I do! That sounded great to me. I have't seen them since they played with Renaissance and Fairport Convention (which Google tells me was June of 1985 in at the Beacon Theater. Holy crap, that's 30 ( Read more... )

Thanks for the video! I envy you getting to hear and sing along with All Around My Hat too, as I was at the Winnipeg Folk Festival a few weeks ago and Steeleye Span performed there, but they didn't do that song, even though Dave Clement (the Decadent one), who was sitting next to me and my wife, yelled it out as a request. And boy, does Maddie Prior's voice still sound wonderful.

It was a great moment. Small venue, enthusiastic crowd. I'm going to be hearing that in my head for a long, long time.

And that wasn't even the best song of the set, which would have been Boys of Bedlam.

Thank you for the video! That is my hands-down favorite of their songs and has been since the day I first discovered Steeleye Span in college.

I wish it hadn't been on a weeknight. Looks like all sorts of fun, and very good company. I hope someone recorded the whole thing and posts it to the usual concert sites. If they do, I'll grab it and share it around.

Nitpick: The didn't do New York Girls? Hmph :-)

Oh, please do! I'd love to have a recording of Boys of Bedlam with the new bit added.

The NYC show seems not to have made it to the usual sources. However, I've just acquired a copy of the show from Schenectady from July 19, which is substantively the same setlist. Depending on the format you want, I may need to convert the FLAC files to MP3 or to CD Audio, at which point we can work out delivery. (The fact that a July 19th show is only now showing up suggests the possibility that someone did record NYC, but there's no guarantee.)
