My Pterry Story

In early 2005, a not-quite-10-year-old YoungerSon was doing an author bio for school, and chose, as his author, Terry Pratchett. He'd met him briefly at Noreascon 4 and ConJose (Wondering if ExWife still has a copy of the pictures of Pterry with the boys)) and wanted some more information so he could write his report ( Read more... )

I only met him once - at the 1995 Glasgow World Con. A group of us (filkers) had been watching some journalists trying to get him drunk to get a memorable quote out of him. Once he'd 'disposed' of them he came over and asked if he could join us at our table for a bit. We had an interesting chat.

A friend produced this today http://www.halon.org.uk/b3ta/tp.png which I think goes well with the twitter message "AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER."

Truly.

I would like to snarf your userpic of Death. I have already saved a copy and uploaded it to use with my own blog entry on this subject, but if you do not wish me to do so I will remove it from my userpics list and replace it in the post with my own skull pic, shown on this comment.

He was very easy to talk to at cons. I think the last time I saw him in person was at Noreascon 4 in 2004. I was on staff and rather rushed as I said a thank-you to him, and he seemed mildly disturbed at my haste. It's a pity that was our last meeting.

I met (well, encountered, since I didn't actually get introduced) him a few times when he was the GoH at Lunacon, Noreascon 4, and Minicon. Every bit of everything I saw him do or say was kind and thoughtful.

We've lost a good 'un, indeed.

Yeah, I only met him once, when I was literally the last person in a humongouos signing queue in Stockholm's science fiction bookstore. Nevertheless, he was still very gracious and ready to share a few words and personalise his signature. I'm more than willing to forgive the greeting being short and nigh unreadable.
