I don't understand why people attack peaceworkers and aid workers. I really don't. It always struck me as the ultimate form of "cutting off one's nose to spite one's face".
But bless you for being the kind of person who reads awful news like that and wants to help. If the world had more of you and less of the violent ones, what a nice place it would be.
For some people, peace and cooperation are a deadly impediment to their goal, which is power.
I'm reminded of an SF story I read long ago, called "Power to the People," which ends with a power delivery system going online and a demagogue being told (quoting from very old memory), "They're doing what you never wanted to do. They are bringing power to the people!"
