[There's a sound of shifting, and a voice swears under his breath. A tuft of alarmingly bright red hair comes into view over the device, followed by a completely bewildered face.]

...did I fall in another hole? "Use this"? What if I don't want to? Fontech is Guy's thing ( Read more... )

derp, arrival, special snowflake, uh.

Do you fall into holes often, or something?

What's a fontech?

Yeah, but... [Truth be told, Oz hasn't encountered any real monsters of his own, but still... Uh, there's something about a chip too. If you have magic, you can't use it.

[Only half-listening, Oz. He's kind of morbidly fascinated.] I don't, really...

[Chatter chatter]

That's good, I guess. I don't either, but sometimes people talk about it over the network...

Never did get the hang of fonic artes. [Wanders back over to the communicator and picks it up-- the feed abruptly stops when he accidentally hits a button. He fumbles with it for a while. ...Don't worry, he'll figure it out and turn it back on.]

So this fon-stuff is magic too? [Blinks as the communicator turns off. Huh? Did his just break, or something? It turns on by itself, does it turn off too? Oz is now poking at his communicator, turning it upside down and examining the back.]

[Doesn't seem to realize he shut it off, and is rambling mid-sentence when the feed switches back on.] --sound particles that mix with matter and make up just about everything where I'm from. Not exactly magic, but people can manipulate them for things that are kind of like spells you see in fairy tales.

[Was examining the communicator when the voice switches back on. Oh, it's working again?]

Ehh, that's pretty cool! I guess it all sounds like magic to me though...

[Oh yeah, new person.] I don't know if anyone's told you yet, but a lot of people here stay in the apartments in the residential area. It has the least monsters, I think? Or a lot of people just hunt them here.

Guess that'd make sense, if it's a residential area... How would I get there from near what looks like it used to be a Library?

Uh-- hold on, it's been a while since I've gone outside near the library. But I have a map somewhere...

[Doop de doop fiddling with the communicator.]

If you're facing the library, go... right, I think? Yeah, down Ingles Trail, and then up Lander. There are a bunch of apartments around that area. Just look for big gray buildings-- well, they're all gray-- but ones with a lot of windows, I guess.

[Looks for street signs-- aha!] Ingles. Gotcha.

...I'm Luke, by the way.

Sort of a constant state of being for me, these days.

Nice to meet you, Oz.

Ehh, really? Your world must be pretty interesting, with random holes and traps and monsters and stuff.
