This will show you how to get a purple-blue colouring, while still remaining simple. :)




(Background Layer)
Open your full size picture. If it's very large (ex: HQ 1200x1700), resize it to about 700 in width. Sharpen it twice, then crop to 100x100 or whatever. You want to generally start with a light image. If your base is too dark, use screen layers or curves to brighten it, but I don't suggest contrasting it. Working with images that have blue in them is good, and you don't want the base too light.

Layer » New Adjustment Layer » Color Balance

Change only the settings below
Color Balance (Layer 4) /*

Midtones --
Cyan / Red: +13
Magenta / Green: +14
Yellow / Blue: 0
Preserve Luminosity : Checked

Add whatever you want. Brushes, text, etc. This will not work on every icon, so I don't suggest always keeping the same settings. Fin. :)

(Heads up: It will turn yellow-tinted icons and red objects... green.)
