I just kept grinning bigger and bigger as the story went on. You've greatly expanded on canon while remaining true to what we do get to see of her. I loved the reversal at the end where Mitani surprises her.

Followed your post here. Merges with the canon very well. I love your Kaneko: how she takes everything in stride, how she discovers herself and knows how to not trip on the teenage angst. It's great how played with certainty and being resolute.

When I started researching her character, I was asking myself: why is she *not* insecure, despite her non-standard appearance, in a society that has even crazier ideals about thinness than our own? I guess this story was my answer to that...

This is such a fantastic character study of Kaneko! I love how she's so analytical and badass at volleyball, and choosing to be unmoved by talk of diets--and her anger at Mitani's poor grades. Awesome.

I decided to write her as analytical because she seems to be very good at figuring out what makes others tick (Akari and Mitani in particular), in addition to being calm-natured. But everyone's got a button, and I'm betting hers is wasted potential (considering that she seems like a high-achiever). Look out, Mitani. ^_~
