Tonight my roomie and I went to the opening night of the Cedarville theater group's production of Romeo and Juliet.

It was SCANDALOUS. There was...KISSING. Between two unmarried people! And it didn't just happen once, or even twice, but it happened throughout the play. Roomie and I were both shocked. This is Conservative University after all, ( Read more... )

Scandal! It almost makes me want to give in and go see it. I was refusing after hearing they didn't keep the original language. Honestly. Baz Luhrmann keeps the original language, and Cedarville thinks they can change it? Someone needs to learn their place.

Sigh. Kissing on campus. Those sorts of people are nothing but trouble. We're going to become a campus of people who make out in dorm lounges and wear blue jeans.

I must admit I am very ignorant when it comes to Shakespeare, but the play's dialogue sounded very Shakespearean to me. Very Old English-y. And of course they had all the famous lines--Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo, and so on. But I couldn't tell if they had changed the rest of it.

Kissing on campus. Those sorts of people are nothing but trouble.

Oh, I agree. Those people should all be kicked out immediately, don't you think? Otherwise they might influence all Cedarville students to become horribly rebellious and do shameful things, like...*looks around and lowers metaphorical voice*...leaving beds unmade. The horror!

:p

OMG YES YES YESSSS MY LIFE IS COMPLETE. I was already planning to buy that calendar, but I definitely will now. (I probably won't be allowed to hang it up at Cedarville, though...it'll probably be too scandalous.)

tee hee! You'll be like Elizabeth Swann, with a secret compartment in one of your drawers, and you'll pull it out every few days to worship (and pet) it. ;)

Hee! I like that idea. ;) Hopefully I won't have nightmares about it, though! :p

In reply to saintcheney, it turns out that they barely changed the dialogue at all - fear not, Sarah.

And, to defend Cedarville for a second, no one ever said wearing jeans to class or not cleaning your room is a sin - those are merely college rules. I guess I just get tired of people saying, "Oh! I wore jeans to class! I'm a sinner!" When THEY are the only ones saying its a sin. "The Institution" says no such thing.

Sorry. I hear that one too much.

BTW, did you like Tybalt? A friend of mine played him, and knowing him he probably did a good job. Just wondering what you thought.

Oh, I wasn't implying that it's a sin to wear jeans--I don't think that and obviously neither does Cedarville, otherwise there would be no such thing as casual days. And really, I don't have a major problem with the dress code, although I do think it would be nice if we had a few more casual days throughout the semester. I was just having a little fun at Cedarville's expense.

I thought the guy who played Tybalt did a very nice job, although I did notice that after he "died," he was obviously still breathing. :p I also thought he was the best-looking guy in the play, but that's neither here nor there. :p

Oh, yes, well, I agree. More casual days would be nice.

Oh, I'm glad you thought he did well. He'd be very pleased to know someone found him attractive as Tybalt :) (he doesn't like what they did to his hair). Attractive in an innocent way, of course. It'd have to be, because his girlfriend came up for the play this weekend.
