Here If You Need Me - A Shepard/Garrus Manifesto

Apr 24, 2010 18:59

Ever since I first heard of the ship_manifesto community, I've been toying with the idea of writing a manifesto of my own, but it never happened for one reason or another. But when my Mass Effect OTP unexpectedly became canon in the second game, I thought the right opportunity had finally presented itself--except that, literally a day after the thought crossed ( Read more... )

bioware, ridiculously long fandom posts, mass effect, xenophilia

Thank you! And I'm glad you don't mind me using your screenshot. I have a pretty big collection of Garrus pictures, but I have to say that's one of my favorites. :)

*Claps* Thats exactly what I was thinking! You wrote it out so well. You also blew my mind with the comparison of how Thane met his wife. I agree that ME3 best continue with their relationship with the same (or even more) deep the provided us.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. And yep, Shepard/Garrus better not get Horizoned in ME 3 or there are gonna be pitchforks and torches. :p

Thank you so much! Glad it didn't come across as too rambling and longwinded. :)

Love.

Haven't finished the game yet, but since I started a new character, I'm going for this subplot. (When I boot in an ME1 char, she'll hold out for Kaidan, but I think this is a bit of a fresh start)

Definitely will check out your fic recs, and LOVE the fanarts! That "Reach & Flexibility" comic is HI-LARIOUS.

It's so funny, b/c I don't really read the boards at all (except occasionally to do things like get lists of the planets with element zero...I know, I'm a cheaterpants), so I was kind of surprised to discover th at it wasn't the writers' original plan for Garrus to become a romantic option - I said as much to my only two gamer friends when I played the first game, I was like "but what about Garrus?"

It's kind of awesome discovering that not only did the voices make a difference, but THERE IS THIS WHOLE FANDOM OUT THERE THAT LOVES THIS 'SHIP. I'm overwhelmed with glee.

Thanks for sharing! :o)

Thank you for the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed my shippy monologues. ;) I actually hardly ever read the official boards, either (it tends to be a little, ah, crazy over there), but yeah, the writers definitely did not expect Garrus to be attractive to so many people. From the tone of comments they've made in interviews, they really just seem shocked overall that people are actually capable of developing attachments to something that's more alien than a spraypainted human with tentacles. :p

It's kind of awesome discovering that not only did the voices make a difference, but THERE IS THIS WHOLE FANDOM OUT THERE THAT LOVES THIS 'SHIP.I'm honestly still in awe over it, and the game's been out for more than four months now! I'm used to being in fandoms where the PTB's response to the fans was generally to either mock them or ignore them, no matter how numerous or passionate they were, so to be in a fandom where the writers actually listened to the fans' requests is a novelty I'm relishing. And yeah, being part of such a sizable fanbase ( ... )
