There are some things I just really love. Seriously in love. Some are people, some are places, some are objects, but I'm in love with them, in some way or another. I feel instantly happier in their presence

Its funny that you say that about weeds. I love the show too, but it's kind of a suspension of disbelief thing to me because I always thought that they had a tendency to gloss over the overall decay of that family, which in the end makes its portrayal of suburban life incredibly inaccurate. I don't really mind them doing this for the sake of telling the more interesting story about the mom. When you stop to think about it though, the kids in the family seem to kind of minorly screw up here and there, but basically they're running on autopilot while mom is constantly acting shady and doing all this stuff and uncle andy is running amok and/or getting in trouble with the law. I think if the circumstances in the show were happening in real life then the kids would be completely hopeless and out of control at best, and more likely they'd be violently expressing their dissatisfaction with their family life.
I'm basing this mostly on the first season since the second one isn't on DVD until next week.
I don't disagree with you in terms of the first season. Especially with Shayne. I think a lot of his problems in dealing with his father's death, which could have been very interesting and real, were glossed over. I loved his little outbursts of terrorism and shooting the mountain lion -- they were all great and very amusing, but I wished that they had done more with them.
Thankfully, they delve more into the rest of the family and each individual's issues (and their relationships with Nancy) in the second season. I'm interested to hear what you think about the storytelling after you've watched it. I found it much darker and richer, and definitely more satisfying in terms of the family stories. Not to mention how Nancy's new angle of the business seems to change her.
I have to ditto Ashley on this point. I've been watching the 2nd season in re-runs and it definitely deals more with the family (and rightly so) than the 1st season did.
I kind of think the 1st season sort of had to go that way for a while to set the show up for the more complicated issues it got into in Season 2.
Isn't it funny sometimes how other people see you vs. how you see yourself? I don't know if "confident" and "in control" would be in the top 10 words I use to describe myself, but they are both things I wish I were more of, so it makes me feel good that you see me that way. Thanks!
And yes, Michelle is so amazingly cool. Even in her uncool moments, like when she wore the pajamas with toothpaste all over them to her office all day.
