The poor busboy. Robert was a good kid, but he was painfully useless at much more then bussing tables. The boy just looked at him for a long moment, just staring before it finally got through his head that he'd asked for Seamus' wife and was carrying some manner of fussy things, probably for Little 'Stan', as her father called her ( ... )

"Mrs Finnigan," Severus replied with a respectful nod.

"Might we converse for a few moments somewhere less . . .," he glanced around at the crowded, noisy bar with a grimace, "occupied?"

He didn't really want witnesses to the ritual of infant-gift-bestowing.

It was impossible to miss the child being so prominently carried, blinking with clear, bright eyes and looking almost too tiny to be allowed. How did they fit all the requisite internal workings inside such a wee frame? It was impossible not to be somewhat fascinated. From an entirely intellectual-curiosity standpoint, of course.

She glanced around the bar before she nodded, "Yes, we can go upstairs." she said with a small smile to him, moving to carry the baby back up the stairs, letting him follow at his own pace. She didn't know Snape from a hole in the ground really, other then that he was a patron. Constance started to fuss once the downstairs door was closed with it's sound-proofing spell.

The baby liked all the noise and lights and all the things and people to look at. Constance motioned for him to sit down on the couch, "I'll get some tea if you would like." she offered.

Constance was shifted slightly against her mother's shoulder, yet she still stared at the new person. She was tiny, but she was chubby for coming out of her petite mommy. At a little more then a month, she wasn't lacking in the grocery department. The baby liked people. It was obvious that she was aware of her place in the world. Even if she was chubby, she was the Finnigans' whole world.

Seamus returned to the bar from the kitchen and immediately noticed the atmosphere was slightly charged. He placed the tray of clean glasses on the bar and systematically put each size away with its fellows as he called out to the busboy, Robert, to find out what he’d missed in the brief time he’d spent in the kitchen capitulating to Cook about the dinner menu ( ... )

With Seamus on one side and Mrs Finnigan holding out the infant to him on the other, Severus felt like nothing so much as a hare cornered by a family of foxes. His steps back toward the door were effectively herded, instead, toward a chair while his protests fell ineffectually from his lips ( ... )

"Well now is ze time to get ze experience." she said as he sat down in her large high back chair. She reached down and took Snape's big hand, "'ere, you use zis 'and to support 'er 'ead." she said, settling the baby easily into his arm, "She is not crying, zat means she likes you."

No that just meant that she didn't have anything to cry about at the moment. She glanced at her husband with a bright smile to him. Yeah, she didn't know that Snape was mean as a pit viper. Constance's little mouth moved as if she was chewing on something that didn't exist, little spit bubbles surfacing on her lips. Those big eyes of hers didn't stop staring at him, her fingers opening and closing as her feet wiggled with those little green socks.

Charlotte thought that they were rather adorable together. Severus Snape was a big tough guy and the little baby was just a soft little thing that charmed everyone that met her.

To his utter horror, the child was presented to him as easily as though she were passing a quaffle. His eyes were wide with unconcealed panic as he tried to make certain he was guarding the baby's neck as directed. He'd remembered Narcissa always saying that with Draco, too. 'Mind his head...'It really wasn't quite so bad. Her head settled easily in the bend of his elbow, cradled against his chest. Her entire body was so tiny that her nappy-covered bum easily rested in the palm of his hand, leaving her plump legs free room to kick and wriggle while his index finger of his other hand was still firmly captured in the firm grasp of one of hers. She was very warm and very soft and very wriggly. She smelled sweet, like a mixture of talcum powder and baby-cleansers and just a hint of not-quite-sour milk ( ... )

Seamus watched with a mischievous sparkle in his eyes as Charlotte completely disarmed and dominated the surly Professor with the use of one small bundle of Finnigan joy. He was too amused break up the happy baby scene Charlotte was scripting right in front of him. He could not have arranged it better if he’d been a stage manager in the West End.

“Aye, then, Stan luv. Be after treating the Professor with respect now, babe o’ mine. He’ll be able to get his own back ‘fore long.” He laughed and came over to stand beside his wife, a languid arm ‘round her shoulders in thanks for providing him with a priceless view of his Potions Professor. It was worth every stinky diaper and every nighttime rock or walk ‘round the apartment with the sleepless miss to see Professor Sererus Snape reduced to speaking most kindly to his babe.

Yes, a camera would have been more than welcome, but Seamus doubted he’d forget this homey scene any time soon.
