She’d tried to sleep; even in Ron’s warm hold she hadn’t found peace. He hadn’t come home.
Slipping out of bed, with a sweater pulled on to keep out the cold.
Peaking in the door, she noticed that Ginny too hadn’t gone to sleep. “I’m going to kill him. I could have used that sleep, I really could have. But no, Harry had other plans.” Perching on the edge of Ginny’s armchair, Hermione ran her fingers through a loose strand of Ginny’s red hair.
Ginny would be worried, of course, but Hermione was just as worried about her best friend, yet it was so much easier not to show it, to pretend it was all okay.
“He’s alright Gin, I know he is.” Hermione would have liked to believe she’d know if something had happened, that deep down somewhere, she’d know.

"I'm going to strangle him. The bloody prat," Ginny's tone started angry and ended on a bleak note.
She scrubbed the sleeve of the oversized sweater - one of Harry's - over her eyes and let out a sigh. "He has-" her gaze found the clock again and she scowled, "Twenty-eight minutes before I start a search party. Godric help him if he's alright because I'm going to kill him."
With a disgusted noise, Ginny tossed the paperback onto the tea tray with a clatter before she leaned against Hermione. She'd been up all night and her wrist was starting to ache. Her back ached and it was all Harry's fault.
What if he'd been hit by a bus?

He was in big trouble, massive trouble. Hermione was so worried, what if he’d been sent to St Mungos and didn’t know who to owl, what if he’d been hurt in a muggle neighborhood and taken to a muggle hospital? That thought frightened her more, much more.
“If he’s not home in 15 minutes, I’m going down to the phone box to start calling Muggle Hospitals.” He could be unconscious, not know who he was.
Now Hermione was even more worried than before.
Hugging the red head closer, she stoked her hair in a rather motherly way.

She shook her head, "If he was at St. Mungo's, they'd have sent owls out already to us. Not to mention someone would have popped up on the floo to tell us. He isn't at St. Mungo's."
Ginny reached forward to snag her paperback once more as she added grimly, "So if he's injured, it's likely in a ditch somewhere. He ran up to the attic yesterday but I never thought he'd crash his broom. He's too good a flier."
Opening it, she stared blankly at the words before she tossed it down on the table once more and stared at the clock. From the battered state of the novel, Ginny had been spending much of the night doing just this.
