Thank You For Your Service

I reach work, the guy at the parking lot fits my car in a seemingly small space. He gives my keys back and i "THANK" him for his service. He looks up at me and smiles.

I walk up to my elevator, the lift man asks me which floor i want to go to and then takes me to the level, presses the button to let me out. I say "THANK YOU" before i leave the lift ( Read more... )

You're welcome! :o)
I thank every one too, from bus drivers and conductors to doormen and shop keepers and I get a lot of smiles fort it. I am rather proud of myself for developing this habit all by myself from a very young age.

Surprisingly, in Singapore, "social" interaction is at the minimum... People won't even meet your eye sometimes. Its strange then, that whenever a Caucasian walks by me, I'm always smiled at, and 'hello'd' or bid the time of the day, to which i usually scramble to reply hastily, before they walk past and think me a rude Indian girl.... (which i'm not!) tsk!
I've been taught to be polite and mind my manners, so i dont think twice before i thank anyone, its not something i picked up when i left home. Its normal for us to thank ppl in the house, and around us, for making things easier.
Indians don's expect the "thank you" and the politeness. Its still quite novel to them. I've no idea why!
