I love that statue. It was one of the ones we studied in art history, but they never taught us it had such a luscious background, too! Wow.

The sad thing is, I went to all these Catholic websites on saints, and they all left the ecstatic suffering bit out almost completely. Mmmm... bowdlerizing!

Ha! It figures.

Actually, I remember there being something sidenote about the statue having erotic overtones... to which it was like, yeah, look at her expression? But there was not even a side note about the suffering! Man, even at art school.
