Holy shit; I watched that movie a few years ago and really enjoyed it. It's been too long for me to remember the Quinn influence, but sounds like you're spot-on about it!

I'm thinking about reading Ishmael again; it's short and I feel I've already forgotten too much. Maybe I should get Story of B?

Get the Story of B. It's the best in the series, both in story and purpose.

I just looked up the movie on IMDB (and tried finding interviews with Hopkins and Gooding to see if they're proponents of Ishmael) and it turns out they credit Ishmael in the opening credits.
