Reassure me I'm not a bad person?

I promise one of these days soon here, I'll give an honest to God, happy update about how Finn's doing, 'cause he's doing great - but right now, I'm kinda down.

So tomorrow, we are dropping our cat of 11 years off at the no-kill shelter here in Reno.

Cut for history and justification )

It's a horrible situation, but you are totally doing the right thing. I had a friend with an insane cat that would attack for no reason. About the same timing as you're doing after their first child, that cat got sent away. They couldn't stomach the idea of the cat attacking their baby. They were totally right to do so, and so are you. You did the best you could and gave him 10 more years than he would have had with just about anyone else. *hugs*

You are absolutely doing the right thing. I may have mentioned that I was iffy about Conrad's reaction to a baby and we had already decided what we would do should he show any aggression whatsoever towards Rory (and it does not involve rehoming because he's got serious special needs and is already a senior).

You have already put a tremendous amount of effort into rehabilitating Toxie, but the sad fact is that, like some people are just kind of broken, some animals are, too. A home with a child is not the right place for such a pet. Finn's safety comes first.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. How sad for both of you but it really sounds like your family will be safer without his presence :( It's just too terrifying to think what he could do to Finn.

I agree with everyone else. You are not only doing the right thing for yourself and Finn, you're doing the right thing for Toxie... You did your best and that was a long time to live with his issues, but now that Finn is here, you can't take the chance, plus I can't imagine that Toxie will be happy if you start restricting him even more. A no kill shelter will have the staff to care for him and maybe even be able to find a new home for him where people can handle the issue without endangering small children.

You're definitely not a horrible person. You are doing the right thing for yourself and for Finn. ♥
