An extremely controversial question

Seriously, I have seen people come to blows over this.

You're making chili. Does it have beans? :)

The correct answer is yes, BTW

Yep. I like a mix of different types. Sometimes I skip the meat. *ducks*

Yep, sometimes we do as well (not tonight, though :D ). OR sometimes we've even been known to use a vegetarian fake-meat product!!! *gasp*

And then (this is where you're going to become convinced I've lost my mind), my secret touch? About 10 minutes before serving, I mix a tablespoon of peanut butter into my chili. It does something wonderful, but subtle, to the flavour, I don't even know what, but damn it's good.

*iz excited for chili*

Peanut butter? Sounds interesting! (Similarly, I add anchovy paste to a fair number of recipes as a secret flavor booster.) I've never thought of peanut butter but I do like a good, strong beer in my chili.

Ooh, good idea! I just went and poured a bit of strong beer into mine. :)

How can you call it chili if there's no beans? WTF?

Now the meat question - yes, I prefer my chili with meat.

But...seriously, no beans? NOT chili.

I know, it sounds crazy to me, too, but there is an entire school of people who consider it ABSOLUTE EFFING EVIL to put beans in chili, and will BEAT YOU DOWN if you suggest otherwise. *shrug*

i call chili with no beans 'sloppy joe' although the way i learned to make "new mexican" style is to have the sauce, beans, and meat all separate and each person mixes their own percentage as they see fit.

Hmm, that's an interesting thought.

You probably don't want to hear from the vegetarians on this issue, do you? :p

;)

Hey, who'm I to say? Like I said above, Mr. gin and I have been known to use veggie-meat products in our chili, maybe some veggie folks like the bean-less chili that way?

See, to me that's just called "taco filling." I never ate chili back when I ate meat because a bunch of ground beef belongs inside a tortilla, not in a bowl and I just can't wrap my head around that. So I guess I'm Team Bean, vegetarian or not.

There are people in this world who believe chili should be beanless???

My GOD, what's NEXT? PB&J without the J? Hamburgers without the burger?

Chili should have beans. God deemed it so in the beginning. "And you shall have dominion over the fish of the sea and the animals of the land, and you shall make your chili with beans."

It's in Genesis. For real.

Yes. These people are called Texans. ;)

LOL! I was waiting for someone to come by and say it, but yeah, the "OMG BEANS ARE YOU CRAAAAAZY?" people that I've had dealings with in the past have mostly been from Texas. :)
