So I'm home sick today (still got this icky stomach thing and fuck it, I haven't taken a sick day in eight months) and just now watched Single Father E2...( Cut for spoilers of the episode, and spoilers for the preview for E3 )

I see what you mean about Sarah. My feelings about Dave/Sarah are confusing, and wrapped up in the real-life experiences of some of my friends, so it's impossible for me to be objective about her and her motivations. She seems to be caught up something that's beyond her ability to control and she's just ... going with it, which is perhaps not the wisest course of action for someone in her shoes. On one level, she's clearly got a base attraction for Dave (and who wouldn't). On another, she almost wants to mother Dave, and take care of him, and that's feeding the flames of their thing. I do like that her boyfriend isn't a bad guy, simply because that would have been taking the easy way out. I'm not sure how I feel about the way they are building up the ~mystery~ of Rita's past and her deception, because that does seem like taking the easy way out.

DAVID IS KILLING ME WITH HOW GORGEOUS HE IS IN THIS.YES. I'm honestly thinking it's the best he's ever looked, even possibly above S2/S3 Doctor Who, which is saying something. I could just ( ... )

Yes. The older he gets, the more gorgeous he is. It's not fair!

do you know what I mean?

Yes. Yes I do. It is actually massively distracting at times. He's fucking ethereal. With all the rumours about The Hobbit swirling around, I could totally see him playing an elf because he possesses that level of male beauty where he's definitely a dude but he's still absolutely beautiful. I'm not sure what effect a long-hair wig would have on that though. *ponders*

I understand why Dave is doing what he's doing, but Sarah just seems to be all like "Hey! Hot guy! Who's suddenly single!"

There is some serious characterisation-fail going on with Sarah, I concur. I feel like I know her boyfriend who's on screen for 3 minutes every episode better than I know her.

I think we spent less time with her and her motivations (do we ever get inside her head like we do with Dave? I can't remember), but I don't think she's flat at all. She's dynamic, I think, changeable and believable. Flawed and fucked up for all that she is nice. She shows almost as much of her thoughts and emotions on her face as Dave does. To me she feels a lot more well-rounded than the other adult characters which are all very even keel. I guess partly because she's the only one (besides the kids) who is close to as torn up about Rita as Dave is and all the guilt she has mixed in.

Rita knew all along and never told him any of it. Never told the other guy about him, either.

My mom pointed to this as the impetus for him starting the thing with Sarah. I'm not entirely sure that that's what tipped the decision, but it was just another Dave gets really crapped on thing, in his head, which all lead to him doing what he did.

I disagree. I think she's going through some of the same things he is. But feels almost worse about it because she didn't lose a partner, just a best friend. So she isn't allowed to grieve in the same way. And her attraction, I think, comes a lot from the fact that she CAN do that with him. She can be herself, and that helps her, and in addition helps him. It's needing to be with someone who understands the loss. It's mixed in with the lust, of course, but I think the emotional pull is the stronger of them.

it was the "I'll tell you later," that did it. GUUUUUUUH. THIS ( ... )

*nods* The FOCUS and the INTENT behind it was just scorching hot. I could see it building in him from the first kiss. First he fought it and then they kept getting interrupted. This time he was determined...until Evie walked in on them. Locks! They're good!

The preview completely pissed me off. I hate it when big plot twists are revealed in the trailer. I do hope it's completely false and Rita was not cheating on him (just his fears talking) but either way we should not know this yet. Grrrr...

It was the fact that he lunged at her that stopped my heart for a second or three.... He did lunge right? Maybe I just need to watch it again to make sure right?
