If you'll pardon the pun on the title, this is quite a dark fic for you! It's kind of great to see you writing a little bit askew from your comfort zone! (Maybe like reading your usual stories through glasses burned by holy oil...?)
It's one of those little kernels of an idea that popped into my head out of nowhere! Took me about 15 minutes to write. Yes, darker than my usual stuff, but that's fun sometimes. Glad you liked it!
...They're a window into Hell. A way to see what the unaided eye cannot. Making no sound, Dean gazes at his reflection in the mirror for a long while, his breath slow, deliberate, and even.
...and sees the lies upon lies within lies that conceal a core truth about himself and Sam. One lies to protect others from himself and the other lies to protect himself from others. No wonder they cannot shake their destiny. He removes the glasses and just for a second hears the echo of damned divine laughter. Sam only looks up when he's replaced the glasses in the bag and with a head tilt lets Dean know he's seen as well.
Thank you! I don't go darkside very often (okay, almost never), but it was interesting to take a look at Dean and those glasses, after another encounter with the hellhounds.
