Beautifully played. You worked so much into a short piece, about the demon and Mary, the fact that the demon had Sammy marked as "special" even before he altered him. And there's the sweetness and warmth of this family with the demon pov overlaid, with his own family, and the dissonance there is wonderfully creepy. (I really like how the demon's kids underestimate the Winchesters, but the demon knows better).

Thanks! I liked working with that contrast - the sweet little "normal" family as compared to the creepy little demon family.

I love the balance between sweet domesticity and flat-out creepiness here, love Dean's focus on Sam even before he was born and the small glance into Winchester family dynamics. And the demon POV is wonderfully dark and menacing. Just very nicely done.

Creepy-good! God, I hope they let us in on how Mary knew him eventually. It's cooking my brain trying to come up with good reasons. :)

Oh, me too! John's journals (online, a bonus feature from the season 1 DVDs) mention that Mary kept a journal every day - but the books were locked in their safe. So I'd really like to know what she was writing, that prompted her to lock them up and keep John from reading them. You know it wasn't "Dear Diary, today I took Dean for his booster shots."

That's way creepy. Loved wet grumpy John :) Demon kids should not underestimate any of the Winchesters. Can't wait to find out how Mary knows the YED.

I thought it would be pretty eerie to imagine the YED keeping an eye on things even prior to Sammy's birth. And I guess sometime during the season we'll find out what was up with Mary - I'm anxious to find out! Glad you liked the fic.
