SPN FIC - Surely Goodness and Mercy

Next up: The Benders, which I have to say is far and away my least favorite episode of Season 1, because of the ugliness it portrays, along with an underlying level of ugliness that isn't pointed to, but is so there that ... well, there's this.  We didn't see much of this side of Dean back in Season 1, but we sure are seeing it now, and I think it' ( Read more... )

Wow. Powerful and dark.. people aren't their duty. People aren't what they hunt. But if there's one thing he's learned through all these years, it's that there aren't that many absolutes. Love this line especially.

I'm sure Dean thought, how do you draw a line between absolutely soulless-evil-insane like the Benders, and something supernatural that might be evil only by virtue of the things it does by instinct alone? I remember Bobby telling Dean in "Sin City" that "people ain't our job" - but they would almost have to be, sometimes. The Benders had evaded traditional law enforcement for years, maybe decades, and people like that can never be rehabilitated. They're wild animals. Worse than wild animals.

Anyway...I'm glad you liked the story. Thanks for commenting. :)

*cringes*

I want to say that this isn't Dean, that this is OOC...but it isn't, at all. I'd even say that this is very, very 1st season Dean. Well done.

I wish I thought it were OOC. But I think that thread of despair has been present underneath the surface for a long time. What's happened since John's death has just *fed* it.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Man, what an awful thought. I can see why you avoid going to this place in your head. ::shudders:: Very well done.

It's not "scary" for me so much as it's just a horribly unpleasant place to be. All that much worse knowing there really are people like that running around.

I'm glad you liked the story - although "Shadow" is next and I'm hoping to find something much more upbeat in that one to talk about.
