The appendices are coy little buggers, aren't they? :D In my heart, I want Sam not only to have reached Tol Eressea, but to have reached Frodo too; T. never quite says that happened, but I want to believe it. This drabble considers the possibility that it never quite worked out that way . . .

*dances* Yes yes! That's what I was after. T. says Frodo needed Bilbo because he desperately needed another hobbit with him; I'm sure T.E. was wonderful, but in some ways deeply alien to hobbit sensibilities.
