A/N I fell for this couple watching 3x09 and I’m not ready to let them go, so am writing this to indulge my love for them. It’s a short story of extended drabbles adapted from scenes they shared together and is my take on their thoughts as their friendship developed. Some of the dialogue appeared in the ep, some is my own.
Guy - Something There That Wasn’t There Before
“You know the stories?” He spat. “Don’t talk at me like that; whatever you’ve heard I can assure you would pale in comparison to the truth. Don’t dare tell me you know my story. No one knows what I live with, and what I will die with, apparently” he flung himself uselessly against the bars that separated them, causing the young woman to step back, although he didn’t really think she was afraid, which left him feeling unbalanced.
The momentary rage dissipated, he slumped back against the wall, and let his weight fall until he was crouched down on the floor.
The girl, sensing the threat had passed, stepped into the meagre light, and looked at him in curiosity. He glared back at her, hungry to witness scorn or loathing in those eyes. He expected it, almost needed it, to reaffirm what he already knew - he was beyond redemption, and would soon be brought to account for his crime, albeit it one that few but himself knew the true nature of.
What he saw confused him; there was no pity, no hate, only a mild curiosity, and something else he couldn’t determine - shock? Surprise? Unwilling interest? The closing scenes of ones life were apparently very ironic, as for a moment Guy of Gisborne could have sworn he saw his own murdered Marian gazing back at him, willing him to be something better than what he had allowed himself to become, and contemplation of that was a road he couldn’t allow himself to venture down.
