There were times that Ryou feared the night. It was cold and forbidding. The inky blackness of the dark prohibited him from seeing. What lay in the shadows where starlight and moonlight could not reach was the unknown.
Ryou didn’t know what he feared more: the night or the unknown.
He knew he was friends with Yuugi and the Pharaoh. He knew that the Pharaoh held the power of the sun, and could banish the shadows at will. During the day, Yuugi’s other ruled.
But, when the shadows fell and the sunlight faded, thieves and rogues moved freely, and the king of them all reigned on high. He was the shadows and of shadow and cloaked himself completely. A camouflage of the best form was his mask, and he wore it well. So well, that Ryou wondered where he stopped and he began.
The unknown: That was surely what Ryou feared the most.
Ryou never fretted, though. He never dwelt on his fear of both the dark and the unknown. Because, though the shadowy Darkness covered him with frigid kisses while the sun was down, Ryou knew for certain that at the very least, the sun would rise in the morning. In the morning, the darkness would be gone.
