The amount of activity this journal has seen is pretty much a direct corollary to the amount of writing I've been doing ( Read more... )

Wow. I'm happy that you're trying so hard to nail down the hows and whys of your non-production, because I know that's been a problem for you in the past.

Holly Lisle? I'll have to look into that. I've been having the same issues that you are claiming and reading through your under-the-cut stuff has really made me think on my own writing. We are very similar, you and I. ^__^;

I sincerely hope that the course works out. <3 If you turn into some sort of writing fiend I'd like to take it, too. XD

It's been my biggest issue bar none, and one I've always chalked up to laziness. And while laziness can definitely be a factor (I can couch potato like a champ), it isn't the root of the problem. I really, really needed sit down and do some good old fashioned self-examination ( ... )

I was glad to read your post - it sounds like you're making good headway and though I found different barriers in my case, there's some similarity with my own stalling.

It's been a bit of relief to know that I'm not the only one doubting and sabotaging myself and that makes it more obvious that I shouldn't get too wrapped up in thinking it's only a personal problem that's insurmountable.

My stalling is ultimately a PERFECT/VICTIM tag-team, I think. PERFECT kills my enthusiasm by nitpicking quality, and while I'm wailing to myself about it, VICTIM sneaks in and says, "Hey, it's not your fault. Why don't you take a breather?"

And then I blink and six months have gone by with no progress.

So you're definitely not alone! And it definitely isn't insurmountable; the trick is to be on the lookout for a backslide into bad habits and thought patterns, and stop yourself before they get the best of you. :)

...but if you only write on the days when you're feeling it, you'll never get anywhere.

I need to stencil this over my desk.

Love this post. And have totally bookmarked that site.

It seems so obvious, but it's so easy to forget, isn't it?

The course is amazing, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to get serious about their writing. I know the sales page looks a little skeevy (or maybe it's just me, but it kind of puts me in mind of all those internet scams out there), but I just chalk that up to Holly not being terribly net savvy. The content is really worth it.

I'll be making a lot more posts about my progress through the course while I work through it, so maybe that'll give you an idea of what it's all about. :)

Holly's amazing, and I will never stop singing her praises. I know time can be a bit of a rare commodity sometimes, so I'll just say good luck on finding some time to cram writing in between all the other craziness. :)

PERFECT is the bane of every writer to a greater or lesser degree, I think, and trying to write in a language other than your native one undoubtedly adds to the challenge. But try to look at it this way-- the language barrier is another obstacle to overcome, but overcoming it will also be another victory at the end!
