"Hey! Don't hurt her!" Jesse shouted. After all, that's how Kris taught him a man behaves. A man wouldn't pick on smaller or weaker people and hurt them. A man protected his family.

Aw, little guy...trying so hard...

Jesse felt a surge of something inside. If he kept them happy - proud, even - maybe they wouldn't hurt him. He knew for a fact that the winner of this fight got to eat. He didn't know what, and he didn't care.

This is so evil. That poor kid.

Kris and Katy sat down to dinner and joined hands with Kaleb to pray.

"Lord, please protect Jesse from any harm and his brother and sister, too. If it's your will, let him come back to us."

But even as she prayed the words, Katy knew.
