“You won’t regret this, I swear,” Neil insisted, standing in front of Adam, all four feet and sixty pounds of himself. “Just punch me."

Oh man. This is great. How could I have missed it?

“What happened last month?” Adam asked, leaning his head close to Neil’s. Somehow they ended up like that. Both sitting with their heads together on Adam’s bed, talking in low voices, so their parents wouldn’t overhear. If they came in, Adam had already decided that they were going pretend they were fighting. Adam already knew what about. Neil could go along. He was great at improv.

“No, but Dad said to be here if you needed something. And I can’t hear your weak-ass voice all the way in the peasant’s quarters.”
