I've probably said this before, but I had to read twice when I saw Evelyn was a guy, as I've never heard it as a male name. That said, it shouldn't matter and I liked the short but all too real exchange you described here, it was very precise and really brought the scene to life. I'm wondering in what way this is a new start for Evelyn though, as the way you described him picking up Simon felt as if he knew really well what he was doing!
