"Seriously, Han, how is it that you don't have a flashlight that works in this place?"
"Because I forget to check the batteries every couple of months like you do, you freak,"
"Hey, I'm a careful freak, thanks," Tony said.
"Argh! I know I have a lighter in here somewhere," Hannah said, rummaging blindly through a kitchen drawer.
"Why would you have a lighter? You've never smoked a day in your life, Hannah," his voice was behind her.
She sighed and he knew instantly that she was glaring at him, even in the pitch black.
"Hello!? I am the candle queen. I always have a lighter somewhere to light them," her voice was tinged with annoyance. "Now if I could just FIND one of the damned things!"
Tony swept a hand over the nearby kitchen counter and his fingers closed around a small cylinder. Squinting slightly, he ran his thumb across the tiny wheel and the flame appeared.
"Found one," he said, holding it up triumphantly. Hannah could only glower at him as she snatched it from his hand. She lit candles and the dark room suddenly filled with soft light.
"Ahh, much better," she said quietly.
He smiled. She smiled back and he reached out to pull her into his arms.
"Power outages make you grumpy," Tony chuckled, kissing her forehead.
"That they do," Hannah agreed, leaning into him. "I won't lie,"
"Remember that time in college when we were up late cramming for exams and you were in the middle of writing that article for the last issue of The Lantern and the power cut out?" Tony asked.
"Unfortunately, I do," Hannah said.
"That has got to be when you got to hating the lights going out," he laughed. "I remember you had to start all over and you were so angry."
"That moment was not one of my best," she said. "But, I don't always hate the lights going out,"
She wiggled her eyebrows in the candlelight and Tony let out a laugh and wrapped her in a hug. His phone suddenly buzzed at his hip and he let out a sigh. Hannah laughed and bumped her head against his shoulder.
"Hello?" Tony said into the phone.
"Tony!" Abby's gravelly voice filled his ears. "What are you guys doing? Is your power out too?"
"Yeah, Abbs, it is," he said. "Um, the entire city is in a blackout."
Hannah giggled, still leaning against him.
"Right, right. McGee says there's something up with a power grid up north somewhere. I don't know--I wasn't really paying that much attention to him. I was too busy trying to unhook all my babies from their outlets, surge protectors be damned! Hey, Han must have tons of candles going, huh?" Abby laughed.
"See!" Hannah exclaimed, hearing the tinny voice. "Even Abby knows about the candle thing."
"Sue me, then," Tony said, barely covering his phone with his hand. "I still think you need a flashlight handy-just for these occasions."
"Anyway!" Abby's voice called out. "Gibbs wanted me to call and tell you that there's no need to come in later. I believe the word he used was 'pointless',"
A grin spread across Tony's face, lighting his eyes.
"Awesome," he said. "I love blackouts,"
His free hand lifted to touch Hannah's cheek. She smiled and batted her eyelashes at him. He swallowed audibly.
"Hey Abbs? Um-"
"I know. You two have fun now, okay?" Abby was chuckling. "Don't let the candles burn the place down!"
"Oh, it won't be the candles!" Hannah said loudly. "Bye Abbs,"
Neither heard Abby's laughing goodbye as Tony flipped his phone shut and took Hannah by the hand. As they tumbled into the bedroom, Tony began to laugh again.
"I take it all back," he said. "These candles rock."
Hannah winked at him. "Well, I didn't make a big deal out of not finding the lighter for nothing. Hello!? We needed ambiance, thanks."
"Um-yes," he replied, blinking. "Ambiance good. You pretty."
"You, shut up," Hannah said.
He shut up and in the glow of the soft light hitting the walls of the room; he fell a little more in love with her, all thanks to a power outage.
