“Are you ok?” Casey asked, looking over at her new partner, who was sitting next to her in the driver’s seat.
Jason let out a hallow laugh. “Yeah, I’m great. I just found out my partner’s dead and my new partner is a…” he trailed off, shaking his head.
“Girl?” she guessed.
He glanced over at her, then stepped on the accelerator.
“Um, the speed limit’s only 45,” she reminded him, looking at the speedometer, which was inching toward 70.
“Yeah, I’ll write myself a speeding ticket later.”
“Really, Walsh, maybe you shouldn’t be driving right now. I mean, you’re emotional and…”
“I’m fine,” he told her. He slammed on the brakes suddenly, making Casey jolt forward. “We’re here,” he said before getting out of the car and walking into the station without her.
