Nerontin/Gabapentin

May 23, 2009 19:34

I just started gabapentin about a month and a half ago.  At first I felt like Super Woman.  Not healed, but without all of those crazy blippy pains that happened all over and drove me nutz.  It was amazing because I could sit though a 2 hour lecture without major issues.  I was on cloud 9.  Now, I'm not so sure.  Nothing definate going on, just ( Read more... )

Neurontin kicked the shit out of me with the fatigue--it made the pain temporarily better, but then it all just got violently worse. The tiredness got to the point where I couldn't even walk. =/

How long was the pain "gone"? Right now I'm at the too fatigued to shower part.

Mine subsided for *scratches head* maybe a month? It's hard to remember much of anything from when I was on it--I was a total zombie.

omg, I was the same!

I started taking it, and I felt invinsible! It was amazing! I think the thing that made the biggest impact was less fatigue, because I've been agoraphobic for 5 or 6 years, but i was going out daily - just because.. I was up and awake and felt I could... the anxiety or whatever just wasn't an issue compared to how normal it felt to be awake and walking.. but it wore off... after about 3 weeks, I still take it, and the dose is still increasing every few months... but yeh... it's not helping anymore. (well if it is, then I'd hate to think how I'd feel without it!)

But, at the same time I was having B12 injections, which could have boosted the whole pain and fatigue relief.

Sorry =/

Yeah, I was feeling less fatigue too...at first. I rearranged my living space. It was awesome because I was able to rearange everything I had been looking at over the last year and wishing I could change lolz. But now...I don't feel like I can even shower wihout getting tired. Actually, hey I just DID shower! Did I mention that I fee like I'm in the twighlight zone? I can't remember if something happened 2 hours ago or 2 days ago.

I know that feeling well... the 'too fatigued to move' and the memory craziness! Could be fibro fog? or I duno.. for me I usually blame it on the sleeping pills!

well, feel better soon! as best as you can!

I was wondering if the fatigue had something to do with this: (this is jus a hypothesis)

The neurontin doesn't cure anything, all it does is make it so our nerves don't feel as much right? So before, I could only stand to pluck my eyebrows for 20 seconds before my hands gave out. But now I can pluck for 20 minutes. BUT, the original issues that cause me not to be able to use my hands for more than 20 seconds still exists, I just don't have the safety valve that tells me to stop. Ergo, I'm totally whipped out from going WAY beyond my limits.

Am I overthinking this? haha

I've been on it for about 1 1/2 years now but it's been a really low dose for Neurontin. I was originally taking 300 mg a night and just moved to 600 mg (300 a couple before bed and the remaining 300 right before bed) a few months ago. I did find that if I take 600mg right before bed I feel like a zombie and well...like my body was numb. Like it did too good of a job of dealing with my neuropathic pain...

I had really bad neuropathic pain which is why I was started on it. Tons of "fuzzy" feeling all over my body... It got to the point that it felt like I was surrounded by the static-like snow on tv channels. I'm so glad I don't have THAT anymore, it was driving me nuts.

So far, no major side effects (which is weird for me, I usually get tons of them). *knock on wood*

Have you ever watched "The Venture Bros"? I love that show. Especially funny if you're over 30.

Anyways I thought of the villain White Noise. His villainy was created after a TV repair accident which turned him into the "static-like snow on tv channels". I wonder if the person who created him had your same problem! I created a user pic of him for you if you wanted him. You know...for the days when you feel fuzzy.

I'm glad its gone. I had these random pings of pain that occured all over (but one at a time) and they hurt real bad but only lasted for 1 sec. They would occur anywhere from 2-30 seconds apart with no warning and no pattern. It was litterally was driving me crazy. I can totally relate to what you must have been going through. The lack of control is maddening...almost to the point of Super Villainy!!! XP

I <3 the Venture Brothers! I am over 30 too. :D

Yeah I got more of the fuzzy/static feeling but I'd get the pings of pain too.. Definitely to the point of Super Villainy!

Hang in there. People have a wide variety of reactions to gabapentin. Usually side effects do go away after a couple of months. I was euphoric the first day I took it. Too bad that didn't last ;-) It can cause dizzyness, grogginess, stomach upset, etc. Sometimes the dose has to be raised again and again until an effective dose is reached. Then it usually continues working. I had to ramp up very slowly because my stomach couldn't handle it, and it took a long time because an effective dose for me is quite high. I take a large dose at night and a smaller one during the day to prevent a rebounding of the pain. That is a key for a lot of people. If it is just prescribed as a nighttime dose, it goes out of your system quickly and you can feel lousy the next day. But, until your body gets used to it, that daytime dose can make you groggy.

Take care, hope it works.

I take it in 4 hour increments, 300mgs each dose. I can feel the pain return if I go more than 5 hours...it really returns if I go without for a day. Do you get that kind of yo-yo effect too? I never thought about taking a higher dose before bed and a lower during the day. I think I'll run that by my doctor. Maybe that would help with my energy level.
