Long recovery from surgery?

I had wisdom teeth out ten days ago. One of them turned out to be complicated and required digging a tunnel in my mouth. I am still in bed, running low-grade fever, in pain, have no energy at all, have a constant headache...yet the dentist says it looks like normal healing ( Read more... )

I think that he means that you seem to be progressing good for someone that just had that type of surgery. I think that a low grade temperature is normal. If you think that you should see a doctor about this I would go immediately. The dentist had done all that he can.
it all depends. I have had an off immune system my whole life. I have never had a normal healing.

Thank you.

I'm not too very worried as long as the fever doesn't get worse and we don't see signs of infection...I'm thinking that probably it's more a matter of healing really taxing my wimpy little immune system.

I am sorry to hear about that. What happened with your tooth? I had problems when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. I had 5 wisdom teeth and the 5th one was growing out of the jaw bone so they had to cut that out. That was terrible. I do not do anything the easy way.

FIVE? In your jaw? eeeeeeee!

One of mine turned out to be way more firmly and deeply in there than they thought, and I think the dentist had to go digging around in my jaw as well. Sure feels that way.

Ya know, I told my dentist that...and he didn't believe me. Now he does. :-) And I think I've scared him off ever working with a fibro patient again. :-P I swelled up so badly I had to go to the hospital and get a prednisone injection. Scared the daylights out of my dentist when I called him the next day and told him about it. But within a few days I looked perfectly normal relative to someone who has this kind of surgery. It was no fun whatsoever, though!

Oh, I don't want to scare you if you haven't already had the surgery...I had so much trouble because one tooth was really problematic. The other tooth is behaving just like a normal person's tooth. Or lack of tooth.

I had my wisdom teeth out two months ago. It also took me awhile.

There’s a reason so many people are afraid of the dentist! :)

My wisdom tooth surgery went smoothly (all four out, no extra problems or impaction), and I took probably about 2-3 weeks to get my symptoms back to even. I expected that though. Anytime I have ANYTHING stressful going on in/with my body, my symptoms are going to flare for several weeks. So I would say that your symptoms aren't something to worry about. Sometimes you just have to get it set in your mind that you'll be laid up for awhile and try to think of ways to keep yourself happy in the meantime. It's harder on you when you push yourself to be 'better' faster and keep frustrating yourself when you crash. If your mouth is healing well, then baby your body for a bit longer.
