I was approved for Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid in October. I am having massive troubles with my local branch of Medicaid. I can't find many doctors who accept it and the customer service is awful. They take forever to approve things and my health is getting worse because I have to wait to receive help from them and the public health ( Read more... )

Here is what I have learned about medicaid.... I can see any doctor that will take the insurance wanna know how?... It is so easy I kicked myself... Do you have a local hospital?? I assume you do... GO TO THE ER... when they treat you for whatever current problem you are suffering from they will give you a referal if they don't give you one ask for one... Then when you call that doctor's office for an appointment tell them you were in the Er and you were referred to them they should take you...

Option 2

My not so local hospital group it's about a 45 minute drive has a network of doctor's employeed by the hospital they usually have a central scheduling department find the hospital in the area usually a teaching hospital get the website or central scheduling number and make an appointment they should also take you...
If you need me to help you I will be more then happy to... Just send me a private message and I can help

All public transportation will work with people with disabilities... Go to the metra website they should have info there

I do not know these things. I ride the para-transit since I am unable to take main line buses or "L" trains. There would not be a need for the para-transit if all public transportation was accessible to people with disabilities.

Do you have a PCP? My local Medicaid branch assigns a PCP, so I'm not sure if going to the ER would work for me. I wish it would though. It would be nice to get help from specialists again.

They assigned one to me but I have never been to see him... I ended up in the er before I could ever make an appointment.. I was in alot of pain turned out to be fibro flare(didn't know it at the time)I just got a dx about 3 weeks ago.. it was in my chest and going down my arms I thought I was having a heart attack... I was also covered in hives and they(the er) refered me to an allergist and the allergist sent me to an immunoligst and they sent me to a rheumy... so the pcp was never involved. and I can't really say each doctor sent me to he other.. The only one I got a referal for was the Immonoligst to the Rheumy... and I did that because with the referal they saw me three weeks sooner then without because at the time I got the referal I already had an appointment set for 1 1/2months out and with the referal they saw me in 3 weeks

Each Medicaid program is run differently. It is state run. So each state is a bit different when it comes to services.

Not every hospital has specialists that accept Medicaid. I hospital shop to get the care that I need. I have doctors in 3 different hospitals. My primary care doctor is at a clinic that I like. I only have 3 specialists.
