Hello everyone.  I would like to introduce myself.  I am old compared to most of you....54 yrs old.  I have had fibro for about 10 years.  It reared its ugly head during my first marriage.  It started in my neck and soon took over my whole body.  I had not slept more than 3 hours at a time in over 10 years.  I was diagnosed first with PTSD due to ( Read more... )

Welcome, but please edit your post so that the colors/font are plain--no bold or colors.

Thanks!

I'm not sure why, but this is still showing as an absolutely HUGE font? Sorry for the difficulty. I've noticed that any time you use Rich Text Editor as opposed to the regular text entries, it tends to make posts huge, if that helps any. If this one is giving you fits, or you need the size to see, can you use a cut-tag for us? Thanks!

Yes, that must be it. The rich test editor. Let me know if it keeps happening after today.

Welcome! So happy that you were able to leave some of the more painful things behind and move forward. i can relate to some of that~ ie: the former abusive spouse, ptsd, etc...and other things. It is really encouraging to read about a happy 'ending' (well not the end yet) to such rough times.

Hello, again :)

That's quite a story. Amazing that you can be so positive in the face of all of that. Your new husband must be wonderful.

You'll find many similar stories here. This is a great group.

welcome! your story is very inspiring. i work with women who are survivors of domestic violence, and i've noticed a lot of fibro-like symptoms in many of them. i was in an abusive relationship myself. i think it would be interesting to study if there is some kind of link between the two. sorry, i kind of got off topic...anyway - welcome to the community! :)

When I attended counseling my therapist told me I had what is called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to my abusive marriage. For 26 yrs I held my hands in a fist constantly and my neck and shoulders never relaxed because it was a daily struggle. I never noticed until she told me. I was always (some now) on the defensive. Its like soldiers who have been in battle. The way she described it was: When you see a snake you are immediately afraid and your whole body tenses up to a scale of 10 and you go into your flight or fight mode. But after a few seconds you realize its not a real snake just a rubber toy snake and you body slowly relaxes back to a 1. But when you are constantly in a tense situation your body gets use to it and it never goes back down to a 1....you stay at a 5 or a 6. Thats what causes all your tension. Did I confuse everyone???
PTSD can occur for a number of reasons... like auto accidents, 9/11, any fearful situation you experience.
Thanks for your comments.
