Key had spent two hours too long looking at his math book. He planned to get his homework over with so that he could enjoy the parent-free week with his beloved Jjong. It had been a while since Jonghyun had been over. They both seemed so busy recently, or rather, Jonghyun was busy lately. But he was involved in a lot of school activities. Though, Key couldn’t remember the name of one for the life of him even though Jonghyun must have told him a hundred times over.
Key tapped his pencil as he studied the math problem, not really ever seeing it. “Oh, this is too difficult,” Key whined even though he happened to be good at math.
Eventually, lack of focus got the better of him. He closed the book and decided he better find something cute to wear. Even if Jonghyun was just going to tear his clothes off, he might as well look good while he could.
He was about to decide on something when he heard a tapping coming from downstairs. Out of shock, he looked at the clock. “6:30,” he mumbled, “He’s early.” It was a surprise, but a pleasant one at that. Key couldn’t help but think, “That ass, he did it on purpose,” with a smile on his face.
Key galloped down the stairs and waiting at the sliding glass door was no other than Jonghyun. It wasn’t mandatory that he always use the sliding glass door, especially at this particular time, but it was sort of like a ritual that when Jonghyun came over for one of their ‘dates’ he always came through that entrance.
Looking a Jjong’s face, Key felt breath taken. To him, Jonghyun was probably one of the most beautiful people he’d ever seen. His shining grin, his perfectly defined muscles, and that ass all gave him the look of a god. And when Key thought about Jjong belonging to him, it was pure heaven. Who could ask for a better boyfriend?
“Hey there,” Key said, sliding open the door.
Jonghyun smiled one of those devilishly handsome smiles, “Hey hot stuff.”
“You’re early, you know,” Key pouted, pursing his lips.
Jjong just grinned and picked up his boyfriend, bringing him into a kiss and forcing Key to wrap his legs around his waist. Key wasn’t complaining. Jonghyun skillfully brought Key up the stairs and into his bedroom. He set him on the bed and then jumped on top of him, continuing where they left off.
In the after math, Key lay at one side and Jonghyun on the other. They both took long breaths before Key wormed his way over to Jonghyun and cuddled close to him. It really was a nice sight.
“I love you, Jjong,” Key said, looking up at his beloved boyfriend. No matter what they had gone through, this moment mattered the most.
“I love you too,” Jonghyun said with a light smile and a kiss on the forehead to Key.
After a while they got up and got dressed. They had all night to lie in bed together, but for now they were both starving. The trek down to the kitchen wasn’t a long one, but it could very well be made into a journey if the right distractions were in place. However, the two boys were heartily ambitious for that food.
“Do you want me to make you a sandwich?” Key purred at Jonghyun.
The older boy took a minute to decide before saying, “Maybe that would be good, but I don’t want meat. I want it to be sweet, like peanut butter and jelly.”
“Okay, dork.”
Key got out all of the ingredients while Jonghyun took a place on the top of a counter. It was as if Key was brewing up some sort of witch craft potion because Jonghyun couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of his lover, not that Key minded at all. It rather pleased him.
“You know, my parents still question me about those scratch marks on the cabinet. No matter how many times I answer that question, they continue to wonder,” Key said matter-of-factly as he slowly spread the peanut butter on the freshly toasted bread.
Jonghyun licked his lips and ghosted his way up behind Key before snaking one arm around his waist and bringing his mouth close to his ear. “And you told them I just couldn’t help myself when their son began to tease me by putting peanut butter in some not-so-nice places, mmm?”
Key remained silent, sighing contently as a small smile danced across his face.
Jonghyun, finished with his attempted seduction, dipped his finger into the peanut butter and travelled back to original spot. By the time he reached that destination, his finger was clean. “So, how long are your parents gone this time?”
Kibum danced to the fridge, retrieving the jelly, and then back before answering, “A week? Two if we’re lucky.”
“That’s a long time to be by yourself.”
“Luckily, I have you.”
“If I was here…”
“You’ll be here,” Key shifted from one foot to the other, “mostly.”
“How do you know?”
Key finally slapped the sandwich together and brought it to Jonghyun, “I can’t assume it?”
Then, for a moment, there was a flash of something in Jonghyun’s eyes that Key thought he’d seen a lot recently. It wasn’t quite decipherable, but it always made Key feel like he’d been hit with a large rock. However, Key just took it as one of those things that needed to be ignored. If it had anything to do with what he thought (or didn’t want to think) then it was best to just assume the looks were no more than bad gas.
“You know me so well,” Jonghyun cooed after they had both snapped out of it.
After that, the boys travelled around the house for a few hours, doing meaningless activity. Flirty conversation continued, from time to time becoming flirty arguments. There were kisses, hugs, winks, rubs, and even close sexual encounters, but nothing that became full blown.
As they lay on the floor of the living room, conversation continued like normal.
“But if given the chance, you really wouldn’t want to be famous?” Key asked, brushing his hands through Jonghyun’s hair repeatedly.
Jonghyun thought for a moment, “I guess it would be cool, but I already have everything I need right here. I know I have a great voice, but if your life is already what you want, why change it?”
Key had no arguments there.
Just then, Key’s phone began to sing, “Run Devil Run,” and flashed, “SPiCEYSiCa,” across the screen. He picked it up automatically, “Hey girl! What’s going on?”
“Oh my god, Heechul is throwing a party and I cannot believe I’m calling YOU first! How can you be so out of it? Get over here now! No excuses, we all need your flava~.”
Key became full on diva, “Are you serious? What’s with this? I know I said I had plans tonight, but no one even mentioned a Heechul party. If I knew that I would have made my plans the party! I will be there in less than ten.”
“You better! Also, is Jjong with you?”
Key became a little bit edgy, but nothing noticable, “... Yeah, he’s coming too.”
“Awesome! Can’t wait to see you,” and she hung up.
“Was that Jess?” Jonghyun asked.
“Mmm,” Key mumbled before getting up to get ready. He looked displeased.
It may have displeased him more if he’d seen the way Jonghyun bit his lip before getting up to follow him.
~
When they arrived in Key’s big white SUV, the party already had a life of its own. Heechul’s house almost looked like it was breathing. Anyone looking at it, about to enter, was definitely thinking it would be a good night.
They got out of the car and went into the party, fingers intertwined. Immediately, they were bombarded by tons of people, half Key’s friends, and half Jjong’s friends. Usually the lines started with, “OMG Key...” or, “Heyyy Jjong...” and usually ended with, “I’ve got to go find her,” or, “But I’m gonna go and score some, later.”
Either way, after so long of trying to find one spot to dance in, they settled on a spot in the very middle where everybody’s eyes seemed to fall from time to time. The way their bodies glided against each other in such perfect harmony was no mistake. If it hadn’t been mentioned before, it’d be safe to say that Kibum and Jonghyun were the true ‘it’ couple in the town. They had plenty of qualities that made other people jealous on a daily basis, but when they danced together, mashing all of their perfections and imperfections together, they became something to be lusted for. It would seem strange to anyone who hadn’t been exposed to the dangerous duo yet, but everyone else just let the envy lead them into their own mindless dancing.
Jonghyun was an obvious choice for the ladies. For all the reasons Key liked Jjong, girls felt them doubled, solely because everyone knew Jonghyun had been gay for a long time. Way before Key was convinced of his homosexuality by his current lover, Jonghyun had made it perfectly clear male was his type. It had never been a problem for him because Jonghyun had always been a well-liked athletic-type. He had always been the one guy girls wanted and none of them could ever have. Perhaps, that was what made him perfect in so many peoples’ eyes. Even when it was rumored that Jonghyun had cheated on Key with girls, everyone thought of it as nothing more than mindless sex. Jonghyun had never been known to like girls and that was that.
Then, for the boys, that left Key. That decision always took some getting used to. However, when the couple of your wet dreams consisted of two guys, there is always one you want and one you want to be. As for Key, he was the one that guys wanted and girls wanted to be. For a guy, he had curves that would make it easy to mistake him for a flat-chested woman had he been wearing a wig. Plus, the way he moved them didn’t help his case. Even his face was delicate enough to mistake for the opposite sex. He was considered sexiest by far against plenty of girls. He’d always been the type to be suspected gay, but denied it every single day, even dating numerous women, until Jjong came along. However, his sexuality was also not a problem because no one dared to mess with anyone associated with Jonghyun. Eventually, he was even accepted by himself.
Yes, they were every person’s wet dream and they showed it off in their dancing at the parties they attended together. No one complained. Everyone just enjoyed the view and their own personal affairs.
After some time, there were needs that needed to be met.
“I’m going to get some water and then dance with the girls for a while,” Key yelled into Jonghyun’s ear.
Jjong nodded and kissed his cheek before Key took off for the kitchen and Jonghyun took off the other direction.
After much needed water, Key made his way over to his friends. For the moment, that consisted of Sooyoung, Tiffany, Sunny, Taemin, and Minho. Although, Minho was more of a wallflower, watching Taemin’s every move in a way that made Key a little envious, just a little.
“Hey girls,” Key said, kissing one after another on both cheeks before getting to Taemin. “Heyyy,” he said smiling and giving him a hug.
“I see things are going alright with Jonghyun,” Taemin giggled, watching beads of sweat race down Key’s face.
“Yeah, it’s started to get better.”
“Maybe you won’t be so bummed out anymore, Key, and then you can come to girls’ nights’ out with us again!” Tiffany teased.
“Yeah, you better start inviting us over for sleep overs again. Your house is so much more fun than Sooyoung’s,” Sunny pouted flakily. For that, she received a small punch from Sooyoung. Oh, how friends could be.
“Well, I’ll think about it,” Key smiled before they all got into a giant group hump, I mean, dance session. (Really, what’s the difference?)
After a while of that, Sunny had to go to the bathroom, so they slowed it down for a minute because it couldn’t very well be a group hump session without Sunny. Meanwhile, Taemin pulled Key closer to him to dance for a while so that they could talk.
“Are you sure everything is getting better?” Taemin asked without any real concerned expression on his face.
Key thought for a minute, “I think so. I mean, so far today has been good, but you never know. I want to believe in him. He’s a good guy.”
Taemin remained expressionless, “If that’s what you really think then I trust you.” He’d always had a way to make Key want to make sure, to really have proof, but he’d never actually had any.
“It’ll be alright,” Key said before spotting Sunny on her way back.
Him and Taemin made some space between them and invited her to play the meat of their sandwich, but then they noticed a look on her face that was not all too thrilled and it had nothing to do with what they’d just asked.
“What’s wrong babe?” Tiffany was first to speak up.
She gave her an uncomfortable look before turning toward Taemin and Key, “I saw something.”
Taemin, obviously having nothing to worry about, turned to Key only to see it had already dawned on his friend. “You don’t think...”
“I know,” Key stated. “Who, Sunny, just who?”
“I just I,” she stumbled on her words, “I can’t. You just need to go. Quickly. I’m so sorry.”
With that, Key took off for the stairs. To say he was fuming would be an understatement. It was more than that. It was hurt turned into violent, raging anger. It was like this a lot. Every time something got better, well, it would never really get fully better, but when it got close then it would happen again. Key should have known better. He shouldn’t have been such a fool.
When he reached the room, through darkness he could see Jonghyun and the slut fumbling to put on their clothing. “What the fuck?” Key yelled before he turned on the lights. For the moment, his eyes were only for Jonghyun. “Earlier wasn’t enough for you? You couldn’t wait until we got home? You just had to fuck some dirty little, slutty girl in the few hours we planned to spend at this dumb shit party?”
Jonghyun just looked at the ground, obviously, speechless.
Key didn’t know what else to say for the moment, so he looked at the girl instead. That was a mistake because if it had been anyone else he could have called her a whore and went on his way. Instead, he stood there in disbelief at whom he saw.
“ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!” he left Jonghyun behind to stand face-to-face with an underwear-only Jessica Jung. “I don’t even know where to begin. What the fuck is this? So, you invite me to some party acting like you want to hang out and then THIS? I haven’t seen you but for a glance all fucking night and this is the way it all goes down. Well, I’m so glad we could spend so quality fucking time ‘Jess’. I’m so fucking glad I brought MY boyfriend to this party you asked me to come to just so YOU could fuck his brains out! AGAIN! Really, this should be posted in the BFF column of that stupid twats-only magazine you like so much.”
Jessica started up, “Key...”
“Don’t you fucking, ‘Key,’ me. Right as we’re about to go back to normal and maybe become close friends again you go and do the same damn shit you did last time.” Key nearly spit in her face before turning around to Jonghyun, whom was facing Key, and saying, “Get your clothes on. We’re leaving,” as he made his way for the door.
“No,” Jonghyun said.
“What do you mean, ‘no?’” Key asked as he turned around looking at Jonghyun with eyes that could kill.
Jessica swallowed for a moment before answering the question, “He means,” she paused, “He means that we’re going to be together. No, that we’ve been together for a little while now.”
Key sort of looked at her before letting it sink in, disbelief floating in his eyes. He returned his gaze as Jonghyun before saying, “What is this crazy bitch talking about?”
As Jonghyun gathered his thoughts, Jessica gathered her clothes and went from the room with them in hand. He finally answered, “For a while things haven’t been the same with us. You know that. I know you know that.”
All Key could say was, “Are you fucking kidding me?”
“I’m always cheating on you. At first, it wasn’t on purpose. It really wasn’t, but now I feel like there is something missing. Something you don’t have that I need.”
“And, what? Jessica has what you need, some skank who happens to be one of those previous ‘accidents?’ You’re gay for fucks sake! What is this?”
“I don’t know,” Jonghyun said, “All I know is that, with her, it’s different from when I’m with you. I don’t feel like I’m losing myself with Jessica. It feels like it might be what I need right now.”
“You’re lying, you’re drunk. We just need to go home and sleep and then in the morning we’ll work on this.” Key said. His tone became a little more pleading with every word, “It’ll be okay.”
Jonghyun’s face became harder, “No, you’re not listening. I don’t even know if I’m drunk, but I know this is real. This is how I really feel. I don’t want to be with you anymore.”
“How can you say that?” Key said, walking up to Jonghyun, “Just stop. I know you’re lying. You would never leave me.” He looked around desperately before grabbing Jonghyun’s hand and looking into his eyes. “You said you would never leave me.”
“I said a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean they are always going to be true.”
“So, our whole relationship was a lie? All this time we’ve spent together was a lie? You never meant anything you said?” Kibum asked. “You never cared at all? Why did you drag it on so long then? What was tonight about then?”
“I’m sorry,” Jonghyun said, taking his hand away. “I tried, but I can’t do it anymore.”
His heart began to quickly fall to pieces. “Jonghyun, please,” he begged. “Just come home with me. I promise it will be okay. I promise. I’ll even do more if that’s what it takes. We’re supposed to spend this next week together. We can get better in that time. Please, just come home with me. Please, Jonghyun, don’t do this.”
“It’s something I’ve needed to do for a long time,” Jonghyun said.
Key just sobbed. He couldn’t believe this was happening. It had to be a nightmare. He couldn’t lose Jonghyun, even after everything that happened.
As silence continued, Jonghyun readied himself for a few last words. “It may not be much, but I’ll leave you with something to remember me by.” With that, he kissed Kibum on the forehead and then moved around him, leaving the room.
Key stood there for a while, not really processing, or feeling what had just happened. However, when it hit him, he fell onto the bed which held evidence of what led to his break up. There, he sobbed and sobbed until he couldn’t feel his body and passed out from exhaustion. At some point, he was found by Taemin and returned home.
And when he awoke, he was alone.
