Summary: If you asked Lee Taemin if he was gay, he'd probably just stare at you. He would rather die that unveil the secret that changed his whole life. However, if you asked Kim Jonghyun the same question, you'd probably wake up in his bed the next morning (regardless of gender). Two very different lifestyles that eventually collide.
Author's notes: If you're reading this, that means
indelible_x updated her fan fic called "Kiss Off". After you read this, you should check it out. It's good. Anyway, I don't remember anything about this part because I wrote it so long ago. It's most likely error free, but you never know.
Flash forward, or at least that’s how Taemin imagined it. He blinked a couple times as he took in the large cafeteria before him. It held every student that currently went to Werner High, which was quite a few. Taemin had always thought his old school was over populated, but this was just ridiculous. It seemed like there could easily be more than two thousand teenagers in this one room. The word ‘fire hazard’ floated around in his head as he came back to what was going on.
Just as she had asked, Taemin decided to trust Krystal, who invited him to sit with her at lunch. She assured him it wouldn’t be weird because it was a mix of girls and boys. He hadn’t even asked, but he supposed those were the kind of things he should be worried about. What kind of person would he be if he sat at a table full of girls?
“This way,” Krystal said looking back at him with a confident smile. He halfway wondered how she was okay with him not replying more than half the time. He’d hardly said a word to her, but maybe she liked that because she had so much to say, Taemin had learned. She really didn’t shut up, but he didn’t mind if it meant he could keep his mouth shut.
When they arrived, Taemin felt like he might have had a heart attack. He really wasn’t sure what he expected because he knew Krystal was gorgeous (for a girl), but he was sure that he’d never, in a million years, fit into this crowd of people. Granted, he got a hair cut, but that didn’t mean he suddenly became the ‘cream-of-the-crop’, and these people definitely were.
“Hey everyone,” Krystal beamed, eyes brighter than ever. They all looked her way, and then at Taemin. He probably had another heart attack, but he wasn’t sure because he really couldn’t even remember his name at that point. “This is Taemin,” she said pointing at Taemin. Her eyes still read something that could only be seen as ambitious, but for what? Taemin still couldn’t say because he was still experiencing heart failure. “Taemin, this is,” she went from right to left, “Wooyoung, Sulli, Kibum, Jessica, Jaebeom, Tiffany, and...” she stopped short and looked across the table a couple times, “Where is Jongie?” The question seemed pointed towards Jessica and Key more than anyone else.
“Chasing the newbie,” Jessica answered with a sly smile as her sister and Taemin sat down.
“Oh, you mean the other one?” Krystal said, making a point to look at Taemin a little before looking back towards her sister.
“Yeah... I think he said his name was... On-ew... Uh-new... Oh-new... something similar at least,” Jessica just shrugged her shoulders because she really wasn’t sure.
Something in Taemin’s head clicked and he said, “Onew... that’s Jinki’s nickname.” All eyes fell on him and he felt himself become quickly heated in the face.
“Did you guys transfer together or something?” The voice of the feminine figure next to Jessica spoke up.
Taemin was looking at the table as he breathed out before answering with smile that exuded a lot of his energy, “No, umm, but he was in the office this morning when I got my schedule. He seemed like a total loser.”
Taemin was cursing himself mentally because he was sure he was about to be singled out and banned from that table forever. If that happened, he should probably just forget about trying to be straight. He was about to just get up from the table, saving them from having to say anything to him before he just went somewhere he was less awkward, but then the person spoke again.
“Jongie sure knows how to pick ‘em,” the voice scoffed and everyone laughed. It was only now that Taemin realized the voice was awfully masculine for the feminine figure he remembered seeing before. As other conversations started, he looked up at the one Krystal had called Kibum. He’d been sort of surprised that someone named Kibum was a girl, but it surprised him more when he realized Kibum was most definitely not a girl even though he looked the part.
Key was in the middle of a conversation when he stopped mid-sentence and turned to look at Krystal, “Wait, wait, I just realized something. Did you tell him my name was Kibum? Krystal, you know better than that. Call me Key, Taeminnie. Do you mind if I call you that? We both need cute nicknames.” Taemin wasn’t sure, but he thought he’d seen Key wink before he finished speaking.
“Uhh, call me whatever you want,” Taemin offered up. That answer seemed to please Key quite a bit, so his attention immediately focused on Taemin and he started up a conversation.

On his way to the target, Jonghyun winked at a couple of girls who stared at him. In return, they smiled brightly and wiggled their fingers at him. He may have continued to flirt, but he was currently on a mission and his target was making his way down the hall way pretty fast, so there was no time to lose.
Jinki had this feeling that ever since he left his first hour he was being watched. Half of him wondered if it was Taemin trying to ruin the secret before the first day was even over, so to account for extra precautions, Jinki made sure to travel from class to class at top speed, leaving no room for secret spilling. Sure, he may have looked weird, but it was by his own merit and not because his brother was gay. That would suit him just fine.
However, Jonghyun was persistent. Where there is a will, there is a way. So, at lunch, when Jinki stood looking around the cafeteria for a place to sit, Jonghyun took it upon himself to make sure he found one. “Hey there,” Jonghyun said.
Jinki whipped his head around at the speed of lightning, making sure it wasn’t Taemin looking for sabotage. When he realized it wasn’t, he calmed down and replied, “Oh, hey. Didn’t I see you this morning? You held the door, right?”
“Yeah,” Jonghyun smiled, “That was me.”
“Cool, man. Hey, I’m kind of new here, if you didn’t know, and I need a place to sit... so, you mind if I crash at your table? Maybe we can become buds or something...” Jinki was pretty confident in his words, relaxed as well.
“I do have a table I usually sit at, but let’s become friends first, learn a bit about each other. It’d probably be more comfortable for you if we were friends before I just invited you to my table,” Jonghyun’s words seemed to make sense enough, so Jinki just went with it. They ended up sitting on a bench at the end of the hall that led to the cafeteria.
“So, how do we get to know each other?” Jinki said as he started to shove food in his mouth. It was kind of attractive.
“Well, I guess questions wouldn’t hurt,” Jonghyun pretend to be thinking, “Where did you come from?” He asked it even though he already knew the answer.
“It was some town east from here. You’ve probably never heard of it because it was literally the only thing for miles. A lot of small town people gathered there on weekends and such, but otherwise it might as well have been a desert town compared to this. Although, there were quite a few wealthy people with large estates around there,” Jinki went on a little and Jonghyun just listened. He’d already gotten the answer to his pretend question, but learned a little bit extra info just as he’d expected.
“Sounds like you moved just in time,” Jonghyun mused, encouraging Jinki to continue.
“I guess so. I mean, I had friends there and stuff, so it kind of sucked to move because of my stupid brother, but it’s turned out to be pretty alright here,” Jinki continued with a full mouth. Delicious.
Jonghyun felt a chance to become ‘shoulder to cry on’ or so to speak and picked up on a topic that he imagined may be beneficial to his later attempts at boning this brown-haired individual. “So, you moved because of your brother? What’d he do?”
Jinki’s expression become irritated, but he continued, “Well, he kissed this one guy and-”
Jonghyun felt a hand on his shoulder and Jinki’s sentence stopped at the same moment. He saw Jinki just staring at the person who had a hold of his shoulder, obviously putting him in a bit of shock, so he turned to see who it was. Kibum, who else would make someone forget how to speak.
“Oh, hey,” Jonghyun said a bit dismissive of Kibum. Somehow, his cousin always trotted up, in his too-little clothing, at the time Jonghyun felt like he was about to get something good. He tried to remember what Jinki had been saying before Key came up, but it was completely gone from his mind. Even worse, when he looked back at Jinki he realized the sort of glossy daze in Jinki’s eyes as he stared at Kibum. “God dammit,” Jonghyun thought because he knew this meant there was no way he’d have chance with him if he was interested in girl-look-a-like Key.
“Jongie, I just met someone I think you’ll be interested in. He may not seem like it from outer appearance, but this guy practically screams gay,” Key’s eyes seemed to dance with excitement. Then, he turned his gaze to the mouth-opened dear-in-the-head-lights Jinki. Quickly, he felt intrigued, “Oh, and who is your friend? He seems like my type.” He gave a wink.
Jinki just stared in awe. After all, Key truly did look like a girl... with a half shaved head, but a girl nonetheless.
Out of no where, Jonghyun had a jacket that he quickly draped over Kibum’s bare shoulders as he turned him around in a quick fashion. If he wasn’t going to have Jinki, then he should try to protect Key from him. That seemed like the very least he could do. “Okay, Kibum. It was nice seeing you. Go to class now and I’ll see you at home,” he shot out a bit too quickly to remain in his usual cool composure.
Kibum looked behind him at Jinki and gave another small wink, “See you later, hot stuff.” And with that he was gone and Jonghyun seemed to relax a great deal. However, Jinki still seemed to be in a daze.
“So, I guess I’ll see you later,” Jonghyun shot at Jinki before he turned to go the same way he’d sent Kibum. However, Jinki stopped him before he could zip away.
“Wait,” Jinki started and Jonghyun mentally cringed before turning around. “You have to introduce me to her... she’s totally...”
“Hot,” Jonghyun finished trying not to bury his head in his hands.
“Yeah, so do you think... I mean it’d be really cool if you could... you know,” Jinki kept pressing, his eyes literally looking like he’d never wanted anything more.
Jonghyun sighed. At the very least, he could probably get some amusement out of Jinki finding out Kibum was a boy, “Alright, yeah. My friends and I are having a party this Saturday, so why don’t you come?”
“That’s tomorrow, right? Sounds cool man, sounds cool,” Jinki was now smiling because he had the chance to snag another look at that pretty little thing who called him hot-stuff. With a triumphant grin, he walked away from a very irritated and slightly amused Jonghyun.

After a very confusing first day, Taemin was just glad it was all over. He just wanted to go home and maybe read a manga he’d hidden under his bed so his mom wouldn’t throw it away because all of his manga were presents from you-know-who. Taemin didn’t even dare to think the name until he was home. So, he walked hurriedly down the hall, making a B-line for the door, at least until he heard someone call his name from down the hall way.
“Taemin,” he turned to see a more than perfect Krystal Jung running down the hall way. Taemin noticed the way her skirt rose and fell with the way she ran and thought maybe he should be excited, but realized that if it took conscious thought it probably wasn’t going to happen. Finally, she caught up to where he was standing, a little out of breath. “Hey, I have been looking for you since lunch. You took off kind of fast, so I didn’t have a chance to tell you,” she took a minute to catch her breath.
“Tell me what?” Taemin asked. He was curious about this girl because even though he wasn’t interested, he still liked her quite bit, for a girl.
“Tell you that my friends and I are having a party this Saturday and I want you to come, specifically with me.”
Taemin felt like there was another not so subtle suggestion there, but ignored it because he really just wasn’t good at this whole ‘pretend to be straight’ thing. “Yeah, I’ll come. Just text me where it is or something,” he thought his nonchalant attitude seemed like the normal guy thing to do.
“Great,” she smiled in a way that should have left him drooling on the floor, “Can’t wait to see you there,” and with that she kissed him on the cheek and left. Something inside him said, ‘you’re so gay,’ but he just ignored it because he was supposed to be straight and really like that kiss. Supposed to.
However, when Taemin got home Krystal was probably the furthest thing from his mind. He lifted up his mattress to get one of his manga out from the hidden compartment in his box spring. He shut himself in his closet and brought a little flash light so he’d be able to read it. He opened the picture book and read one line, ‘what happened to all the good stuff that was supposed to happen to me?’ and began to cry as he was only thinking of Minho. It was the least he could do since he’d actually had a really, really good first day of school at this new place he’d sworn to hate.
