“No? I can’t believe you shoved us in this broom cupboard in the first place!” Annie replied sharply, her patience beginning to wear a bit thin. “Whatever possessed you, sir?”
“Someone was coming.” It sounded feeble, even to Sam’s ears.
Annie snorted. “And what was so wrong about a DI and WDC talking in the corridor together?”
The faint light that shone under the door was enough to make out Sam’s impish grin. “Oh, alright,” she conceded, letting her head fall back against the wall, a faint flush tingeing her neck, “so, maybe we weren’t just talkingShe shifted on Sam’s lap. The broom cupboard was little more than that. No room to stand up in, due to shelving that held every kind of cleaning fluid known to man; they were huddled together, Sam sitting on the floor with Annie on his lap, squashed in the corner with boxes of mop heads jostling for space next to them ( ... )
