The island stood still under cover of darkness, as it always did. Yet...

Then a silent tremor dug deep into the soil, finding its tethers, and ripping on them, pulling them out of the ground. The island blinked in place, once, then twice, until suddenly, it had vanished from the Alexandria coast ( Read more... )

The island has moved, vampires are dying, friends who stopped being friends on Friday are going back to friends. React!

And another one bit the dust!

Zack grinned and bounced back from what looked to be the last of the vampires around him in the underground, offering Jen a cocky sort of grin.

"Well, that wasn't so hard at--" He frowned.

Something inside him just lurched, like maybe it was trying to get out again. Like maybe, somewhere else entirely, it was time for him to wake up. And there was no sun, anywhere near him, to deal with his insane counterpart if he left.

No. No. No.

"...What's wrong?" Jen said, noticing his change in expression.

"It's..." A haze. A pull. And now he was hanging on for dear life, looking around desperately for some way out. He couldn't possibly make it to the exit, to the sunlight, and the only other thing that would do the trick was...

"I'm slipping," he said, as that creature inside began to stir. There was panic, underneath all of that, and his sword clattered to the floor as he thrust it away from himself, trying to take away one more of that vampire's toys. "Jen--"

Words.

He was running at her. She had a stake, and he was reaching for it. Couldn't say it. Couldn't ask for that. Please.

After the move, there's stuff to scrounge and decisions to make. Please mention your location and time in the header of your ping for optimal OCD.

There was stuff to be done. People whose families needed to be called. Priests to be ordered in by the busload, to bless holy water for the mains. The last of the cowardly little freaks hunted down and burned with fire.

But for the moment, there was just the stillness of quiet, and sunshine, and knowing that if she fell asleep out here, she didn't have to be afraid.

Zero sat down next to her, tipped her face back to the sun, and said, "So. I need to call my parents." It didn't quite feel real yet. Anakin had just pushed a button, was all.

"Yeah. And the rest of them." Who Parker had heard all about, over the last three years. "I hope like hell my father never made it to any of the Parents' Weekends."

The causeway can take you home to your own dimension, to Alexandria through the portal, or to lovely, scenic, cold Cape Bridgman in Greenland.

Francine had a bag full of all she'd cared to keep from this place, smaller than she'd expected, and a little girl in her arms. Arthur had... a look, mostly. "What are you going to do?"

"I don't know."

Arthur didn't even sound particularly interested. He was nearly staring at the sun as it was.

"You'll hurt your eyes." It wasn't instinctive, it was just Francine, like grabbing the smallest jacket of Katchoo's she could find to wrap up the little girl and making sure she had a woolly hat was just Francine.

Is there still magic in the midnight sun
Or did you leave it back in '61?

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee Vampire High.

...Sorry. Couldn't resist.
