Beach, Saturday Evening

The beach in Fandom was totally wrong, if you were used to the beach in L.A.

It did not smell right. The sand was the wrong color. And Weetzie couldn't hear any traffic at all, which was creeping her out. She never thought she liked cars, but the way they sounded was like a calming white noise, and she noticed the absence ( Read more... )

And then, suddenly, Derek.

Okay, so it wasn't actually sudden for him as he had been minding his own business on a walk through the preserve. Get the lay of the land, find out were that strange wolf smell was coming from...

So he could stalk them for a bit. You know, no big.

But that was on hold for now. He stayed where he was, just at the edge of where the beach began as he watched the girl and her dog.

Weetzie was oblivious for quite a while, staring down at her sneakers as she kicked stones out of the way and felt sorry for herself.

Monroe, though, was not oblivious. She tugged on the leash as they got closer to Derek's lair, wanting to go and meet and/or attack the source of the strange scent.

"Why are you all excited?" Weetzie asked the chihuahua in a quiet voice, and glanced around to see if she could figure out what was going on. She didn't see anything yet...

Derek stared down at the dog for a moment, giving serious consideration to scaring it off from sniffing around strange animals from then on before sighing.

"Hello?" he called, as though he wasn't completely aware of someone being out there.

"Hey," Weetzie called, squinting down the beach until Derek came into focus. Monroe was already trotting toward him, and the girl obediently followed. "Sorry, my dog's really into new people lately. I think she wants friends."

Weetize was projecting the tiniest bit.
