It occurred to Chris that his aunt probably didn't know anything about what happened in the last two weeks.

And given that Lana was one of her best friends, he figured she ought to know about their breakup.

So he gave her a call, hoping it wasn't too early.

Phoebe picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey, Aunt Phoebe," Chris said. "How's it going?"

"Hey, Chris," Phoebe said in a cheerful tone. "I'm alright... Cole is making me do the relaxing thing. How about you?"

Cole was stretched out in front of the couch, lounging on the pillows in front of the TV, struggling with one of Anders's games. He made it look far too easy, but it was frustrating the demon.

Phoebe looked up after reading a particularly risque scene in her novel. "What are you playing, love?"

"Um, Rumble Roses," Cole said, trying to pull off a move and failing miserably.

"That looks... well... not a game I could play, that's for damn sure." She wasn't very good at the wrestling games, and Anders had tried to teach her.

Just for the sake of giving Phoebe and Bel a little bit of a surprise, Anders had told them he was going to stay in Fandom over the weekend, then booked himself a portal into Neptune today instead of using the boyfriend as a taxi service. For once. He'd had all week to make sure his friends were okay after the invasion of creepy angel statues; now he got to take a couple of days to make sure he was okay, because that whole blinker-bait thing had been way more freaky than he liked to dwell on.

His hair was sticking up all over the place thanks to a weird electrical glitch on his layover (seriously, who routes portals from Virginia to California through the Yukon Territories anyway?) but he was definitely very, very happy to be here as he let himself in.

"Oh, now there's a sight I needed to see."

Phoebe was indeed surprised and she bounded up off the couch and tackled him. "Anders! I thought you were staying in Fandom and why didn't you call?!"

"Your controllers suck," Bel said, glancing to the door. It wasn't his playing ability at all, nope. He was glad to see Anders, too, just not as bouncy as Phoebe.

"Good to see -- oof! -- you too, dork," Anders laughed, suddenly finding himself with an armful of Phoebe. "I thought I'd surprise you guys, but I was planning on coming down this weekend all along."

Lana was also thinking it might be a good time to talk to Phoebe. She hadn't quite been ready till now, what with everything else that had been going one.

Phoebe answered the phone on the second ring. "Hello?"

"Phoebe? It's Lana..."

Which was precisely why there was a very grumpy Eve on the phone.

Phoebe grabbed the phone. "Hello?"

"Anakin Skywalker is a fucking nutcase."

This was probably not the best way to start the call.
