Spa at the Monastery [St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Monday Evening]

Monday evening in the oldest (English) city in North America was crisp and... not all that clear, actually, with a light rain drizzling down. Lucky for the residents of Fandom, there was plenty to do inside where they could be nice and warm and dry. Like that rather expansive Thanksgiving feast being prepared in the Abbey Restaurant.

Annie figured that unless things improved back home before November, this was the only Thanksgiving she was getting this year. Plus it gave her a good chance to see if this was any different than real Thanksgiving.

Of course some of the food looked a little strange to her, so she was just going to try the stuff she already knew.

"Sometimes there's also maple syrup," Rilla said, "but generally...yes. It's wonderful."

Rilla beamed at her. "It's worth it," she promised. "Maybe we can find a place to go dancing later!"

Rilla was maybe forgetting they weren't in her Canada.

"I love to dance!" Rilla said enthusiastically. "There was the jolliest party up at the lighthouse when I was home--" where they'd learned about the start of the war, but she was putting that part firmly from her mind.

"Well, we're on vacation. What else are they for but to do jolly things?" Rilla asked. "I'll have to find someone to mind Jims while we're out."

"I'm sure that won't be too hard. I mean, everyone can't be going out, right?" She'd never had to look for a babysitter, she had no idea how hard it was.
