For those of you not sleeping off hangovers due to last night's jaunt into the fictional future, it was a beautiful morning just off the Mexican coast. Oh, thank heavens - real food!

Hannibal was going to admire the art, of course, but mostly he was just going to enjoy some birria and some decent coffee, and charm some of the locals into selling him the good, handmade tortillas and some quality seafood.

Given all the 1970s American tourists around, the fact he was fluent in Spanish did half the work for him.

"Excuse me, but where did you find that?" Anders asked idly, gesturing to the bowl of stew. "It smells fantastic."

Hannibal smiled. "It is. And no spam in sight. Just over here." He pointed and began to lead the way. "Would you like to try it first?" He'd seen Anders around enough to recognize him as a student, and considered it his duty to feed him actual food.

Anders had recognized Hannibal as a teacher, which was most of why he'd approached the man. Finding a teacher who seemed willing to help him get a decent meal was even better.

"If you don't mind," he said, brightening as he followed along. "I doubt it'll be the worst thing I've ever eaten either way, but it's always nice to make sure before you put your coins down."

"Of course." Hannibal held the bowl out to him. "Although even if you've had nothing worse than the food on this ship, this is far better."

"Oh, I've had worse," Anders said ruefully as he accepted the bowl and considered how to best attack its contents without making a total mess of anything. "But I've never had worse that thought it was fancy. It's impressive how much care they put into food that tastes so undistinguished."

He took an almost dainty sip from the edge of the bowl and wiped his reddened lips against the back of his hand before offering the bowl back to Hannibal. "It's spicy," he said. "Tastes like something from the Mexican place in town, but fresher and without all the gloppy cheese."

"That would make sense," Hannibal said, taking his bowl back and offering Anders a napkin. "And as to the ship's food, that's it precisely - I've had worse, but nobody pretended that it was better." He shook his head.

"This place here." It was a small open place, little more than a stand, but with brisk business from the locals, which was what Hannibal had been looking for. "I don't believe we've actually met, by the way - Doctor Hannibal Lecter." He held out his hand.

"Anders," Anders said, and accepted the hand for a quick shake once he'd mopped his hand on the napkin. "Sorry, usually that point comes before I beg a bite of anyone's food."

Hannibal laughed. "That's perfectly all right; I'm always willing to feed people. Anders. Has Karla or Jono gotten hold of you yet today?"

Anders shook his head. "I didn't think I'd been doing anything a teacher would notice," he said cautiously.

"It isn't anything you've done," Hannibal assured him, "but rather something we're planning. Karla thought you might be interested in a bit of an adventure this evening."

"Always," Anders smiled, intrigued. "Assuming it doesn't involve death or vomit, anyhow. I'm not dealing with either of those on vacation."

"No death," Hannibal said. Well, not if he could avoid it. "And hopefully less vomit than without it. We're taking over the ship's kitchen."

"Right, but I've been fed plenty of things that wouldn't be my first choice," Anders reasoned. "I don't go breaking and entering about it."

Which, it should be noted, wasn't a no. He was usually up for an adventure.
