Pacific Princess, Wednesday Morning/Afternoon

Feb 24, 2015 23:53

For those of you not sleeping off hangovers due to last night's jaunt into the fictional future, it was a beautiful morning just off the Mexican coast. And about mid-morning, the ship would be pulling in to dock in Puerta Vallarta. If you do decide to head off onto dry land, just be sure to make it back before the ship leaves at 6pm sharp! And for ( Read more... )

Accessible only by boat, this secluded cove on the southern shores of Banderas Bay is surrounded by lush jungle and features pristine beaches for an exclusive private paradise.

Oh, Cosette planned to cram every last little thing she could into her adventures today, but this particular excursion was at the top of her list.

Was she going to explore the jungle? Absolutely. Because it was an actual jungle instead of the pretend one she visualized every time she used to play in the convent garden. It even smelled jungle-y, if you asked her, not that she would know what exactly jungle was supposed to smell like. She'd probably just tell you it smelled like this.

"Hello there!" Edward called.

From up in a tree.

Don't ask how he'd gotten there.

Cosette had been examining a nearby cluster of flowers with some fascination when she heard the voice and looked up, squinting up into the trees until she thought she had located its source.

"Hello yourself!" she called back, laughing. "Is the view much better from up there?"

"It is at present!" Edward called, because of course he did.

He threw her a grin. "How's it down there?"

Of course he did -- Cosette shook her head at him, but she was still laughing.

"Well enough! Even the insects are different from what we've got at home." When she was younger, she'd had a habit of picking up rocks just to see if there were bugs underneath, a habit she resurrected for today. "But now I think I'd like to know what it all looks like from above -- is it hard to get up there?"

She hadn't precisely asked how he'd gotten up there.

Edward flung his legs over a branch so he could see her better from down there. "Harder than I thought, but easier than it looks," he called. "Might have to sleep this one off when we get back to the ship!"

"Well, let's hope you've enough energy to make it back down as well, as it would be a shame if we left you behind. Do you think I could make it up?" Cosette peered up and waved at him. She was even wearing jeans today, to blend in a little bit better, although had she been wearing a skirt it wouldn't have deterred her from considering the idea.

Edward glanced over towards the mess of branches through which he had come. "You could, if you were careful," he judged. "There's a fallen tree just a bit back there, stretches up a bit. You can walk on it. After that it's all climbing."

Cosette immediately looked around for said fallen tree, and started to make her way toward it. "It won't be the same as climbing up onto the convent roof," she said, scrambling up onto the trunk. "I'm sure of that. But I'm sure it will be worth it."

"Trees are a bit different than scaling a building, aye," Edward called, as he crawled back to ensure she was getting along safely. "Though at the same time, there's more to hang on to, if you're lucky."

"And less risk of one of the sisters looking out a window at just the wrong time," Cosette added. "Much less of that. I've climbed trees once or twice, but nothing quite this size."

She was fairly nimble, so the fallen tree was easy enough to walk up, and so far the first few yards of climbing hadn't been too challenging.

"Do you do much of this?"

"Only a bit at home," Edward said easily. "Seem to be falling into more and more of it while I'm at the school, for some reason or another my mun keeps thinking it's funny even though I won't get my full parkour prowess for another year or three."

"More than I have. That's certain, if not unexpected." Cosette frowned a bit, trying to pick out the best of her options for her next foothold. Finally she settled on one and scrambled up another couple of feet. "It seems as if you've developed a taste for it."

Edward had climbed a few branches down at this point, just in case she'd need his help. "Ah, it's an easy way to get around in some circumstances," he said wryly, "But I can hardly proclaim myself an expert."

That'd come after a few months of clambering around a ship.

Nothing made someone an expert on climbing anything like the rigging did.

"I can see that," Cosette said after a moment of blinking and also hauling herself up another branch. "I don't know that I ever would have thought of it that way. You'd think I might have, with as much time as I like to spend in the preserve, but I think I've always enjoyed the walking too much. And we only ever used to climb to the roof just to see what was on the other side of the walls."

Actually climbing over the Petit-Picpus walls was fairly impossible, unless you were an ex-convict with several escape attempts to your name, had a rope, and were fueled by desperation, but Cosette hardly remembered being carried along -- literally -- under those circumstances.
