947 words. Not all of them mine :)
------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know you. Mal looks down at the girl asleep in his infirmary. I don't know you and I don't want to know you.The only sound is the soft breathing of the two girls. Kaylee behind him, breathing shallowly, so still that he has to check ( Read more... )

scattered thoughts of mine:

a changeling indeed. i love that. i want to lock that away and carry it around with her picture on the end of a shiny gold chain.

poor mal, always at odds with himself. doing what he has to do...

the hand to the forehead is a beautifully sweet visual touch. i'm going to keep that image for a long while.

Now see, that's an image I want to carry around with me. Thank you, shy.

No fair!! I was gonna write that one!

::whines and shrieks and stomps feet and pitches a fit like a little kid::

But damn. This was wonderful, absolutely lovely. And I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm a sucker for Mal/Kaylee interaction. ::sigh:: Beautiful!

Oh, no! Sorry. To be honest, I jumped right on this because I was afraid that someone was going to beat me to it. It's such a great scene, isn't it?

Oh what the hell - why don't you write yours, too?

Gorram right it's a great scene. And now even better in my mind, at least now that I've read this. :) Honestly one of the more beautiful moments between these two, and I love cappy's thoughts on what kind of trouble River will be (and already is).

And I dunno 'bout you, but during that moment, when Kaylee's hand dropped from Mal's I had a big ol' huge heart attack and barely stopped myself from grabbing my tv that night and crying, "NOOOOO!".

At least until I realized that episode was supposed to air first and that Kaylee was in fact, not dead. ::smacks forehead::

Anyway, my retardendess regarding continuity aside, I couldn't write mine now. Even if I could come up with one as shiny as yours, I'm doing three new fics (well, two new and applying my beta's edits to a third) at the moment and they're taking up all my time and creativity. I think "Longing" was the extent of my muse's input of late.

Ok I'll shut up now. ;)

Oh, I was right there with you. Honestly, my mind was racing trying to figure out what was going on; I thought Simon was going to revive her with some very heroic maneuver. It just never crossed my mind that Mal would be that evil. Heh.

Hey, good luck with your stories! Let me know where you post them, OK?

Her smile is like a blessing. It tears through him.

So bloody sweet. Great job.

Wonderful! Great internal dialogue for the scene. How like Mal to be so complex, the acceptance of the unspoken geas that Kaylee put him under to protect Simon and River, at the same time who's going to protect Simon from Mal's wicked sense of humor. Yep, he's a bad man. Wonderfully detailed in under 1000 words!
